I drove a UK hawk the other day and was expecting a 6 speed gearbox. I thought it was only the classics that had 5 speed.
Which ones have 6 speed?

The STIi Newage models have six speeds WRX No.SJ.

 

Bugger, so it's only the STI's.

Why didn't subaru make an newage STI wagon! grrrrr

Yep, six speed with a longer sixth for better cruising

 

I think they're ace but 9/10K for a good one. It's a bit over my price range.

 

Some do pop up at high 7 and low 8s but quite rarely do. Sadly there is not much choice for estates in the Subaru range as if you want to stick with the impreza the WRX is the best you are gonna get (newage). Only when looks tart to look into other models then you have a bit more choice but as you said, they are a bit more expensive then others

You could wait for a XT to pop up with some tasteful mods although the chances are about the same for a newage Impreza wagon I'm afraid.

They did, but it comes with WRX brakes though.... The bug Sti wagon

Not sure of the look of the Forester. That Hawkeye PPP is the one I looked at last weekend, it was a nice car but didn't do it for me. Can put my finger on why, think its the power delivery on 2.5l engine.
That legacy looks Awesome!! Never seen that look before, I think I'll give him a call.

I don't think the legacy I posted will be up for too long judging by similar spec ones with not as many extras and more miles are going for more.

Yh that legacy does look very nice and clean aswell but, with a bit of haggling, I think the 03' legacy is worth it as I prefer the look of it tbh.

This is my only worry with switching to something a little less well known. With the impreza usually if I have a question or problem it's answered within minuets.

Anyway....

The Legacy Twinscroll is either an E20X or EJ20Y.

One is the auto and one is manual.

I believe both have AVCS, drive by wire throttle and black plastic inlet manifolds.

They do not have forged piston or rods. In fact the rods are a known weak point and there have been cases of rods going through the block!

Mine is mapped to Irish fuel but will be mapped to Vpower soon. I'm expecting anything upto 300hp on the standard turbo/engine and i will not be chasing bigger figures.

 

The BL Legacies where twin scroll turbo's with 280 bhp standard, had the electro luminescence STI style sweep clocks, but had crap two pot front brakes. Post 2006 they came with 6 speed manuals. In ECO mode it would do 35 mpg.

I'm in a bit of I dilemma at the moment.
long story but I went to see the 2005 PPP Impreza I thought I'd missed out on (sale fell though as they guy could afford the insurance) and was pretty impressed with it. I walked away as the car had no oil in it and the owner couldn't explain why. Just had an email from him saying the oil filter was loose which was where the oil went. Not sure what to think...
In the mean time an subaru specialist came over to fix my car (see my other thread) and said that my V5 STI is a cracking car and as there is nothing wrong with it why do I want to change. I think he has a point.........
So, I'm not sure what to do at the moment.

In that case you could spend £5-6k and make yours a kick *** wagon!

Depends really what you want from your car is it performance, practicality, etc. Im unaware of the current spec of you wagon but with £5-6k you could go for a fully forged, 6 speed, bigger turbo, suspension, etc setup which would get you a very responsive STi.

I think you should keep your STi as the Impreza wagons did not get any better after that. Although if you still want a newer car then you could try and wait for a nice spec'd wagon although they are quite difficult to source. Or you could just get a basic one and add the bits you want to it but then again this may exceed your budget.

My wife would go nuts if I spent that money on my current car, she doesn't get the whole modded car thing
TBH I'm pretty happy with my wagon, it's fast enough and the throttle response is great.
I think I might save the money up until I can afford a Forester STI....... Or when I don't need a wagon and I can buy a Bug JDM STI..... Or convince the wife she needs an estate instead of her mini....... Or.........

 

Yh that is probably best. Keep a look out for a Bug JDM STi Wagon aswell if you like the look of them. Although as previously mentioned they dont get Brembos but can be had for around £500-£600 (Front + Rear)
