I've been off the gym for close to 6 weeks now
Last time out something let go in my elbow and it's been painful as hell ever since. It seems to go off for a little while then starts aching again. Sometimes I can barely hold a cup of tea. It's my right arm which I think is the weakest as I'm left handed but I do alot of things right handed.
I also had the snip which meant 2/3 weeks off heavy lifting However, the arm has made my ***** feel like a flea bite in comparison.
Gutted as I was really starting to feel like I was getting somewhere.

Normally 43-44 for that course. Unfortunately I bottled out on the downhill section, it has potholes and speed cushions and faces into the rising sun. Compound that with my glasses fogging up from the damp and I chickened out! I finished 29th out of 121 which I'm pretty happy with.
Ed, rest it and let it heal properly. There are other exercises you can do whilst those muscles rest. When it starts to feel better, take it easy and gentle. The number of times I've gone straight back to what I was doing and ping, the same muscle goes.

Could been worse - didn't do any training/ cut back on beers and was 4 kg over last year . Thankful no cramp / pulled calf
They changed run course this year . I reckon its harder now

My fitness is still ongoing...
Diet still going strong 5 days a week with a complete carb deplete bar those that I get from nuts! Weekend of late have been a little excessive on "entertaining" thus blowing out on too much drink and trash food! However that is due to change soon as I've no weekend plans!
Gym still going relatively good, but have lost my training partner due to his working hours, so I need to step up my game with new training styles, or find another training buddy! I've also started to get back into running which is good, but I need some better tunes to listen too as I find myself getting bored quick
Well done everyone on their fitness and diet

I've been back in the gym for about 6 weeks now.
Still only a half arsed routine and having to keep weights low as my elbow is still a big iffy.
Dieting isn't really working. Seem to have put on a couple of kgs. My BMI is 27 apparently which is too high. I need to lose 8-10kg which seems loads to me.

I've been in the gym for about 6 months on and off a bit due to traveling back to uk and being busy chopping wood, carving up pigs (it's that time of year out here) and building stone walls while the weather holds, missed about 6/7 weeks out of 6 months.
Not going mental, just focusing on the areas that don't get much attention from the work I do, chest, back, biceps, shoulders and stomach with a bit of cardio thrown in, rowing machine and cross trainer.
Not really got any goals beyond just getting things back how I like them, had a bad foot injury a few years back and it's taken a while to get back to almost 100% and a new gym opened up so thought I'd get myself out the house and back in shape.
Biceps are starting to take shape and lost my almost moobs just need to lay off the beer and bread which I shall do after xmas, no point doing it before as I know I'm going to fill my boots while I'm back in the uk, so hopefull be looking quite buff come the summer.

I'm obsessed with cycling. I started in February last year and after my late mother died from pancreatic cancer I decided to cycle all year for charity.
My challenges were
12,000 miles in one calendar year
EVERESTING
24hr ride
Lejog
Sadly it went **** up due to health issues, I kept falling ill and with working full time and the stresses of changing jobs I never August etc etc it was just a no go.
Next year I'll be concentrating on fitness and speed, no worrying about mileage targets.
I'll be starting TT's,crits.....maybe some RR's but I'll be attempting a UMCA cross country record which I'm fairly certain I'll smash with the correct training and diet.

I've started to see some PB's in the gym, but don't look any better for it as I'm not watching my macros, plus I'm also getting the odd injury here and there, fortunately nothing serious.
I think my favourite PB is flat bench fly at 40kg X 2 dumb bells, strains like hell on your own and could do with someone just to edge me after the first 6!
Cardio just being reintroduced slowly, looking forward to some good old traditional road running after the new year.

I wouldn't call that podge unless you're like 18 yrs old
I'm 50 and carry a bit of a beer and bread gut, but tend not to worry about it too much as I can generally lose it in a month if i make the effort, which I'll do after xmas, I'm more concerned with just keeping things moving as I head into the 3rd quarter of my life as I've always been in reasonable shape, mind you it does get harder as I get older, 20 yrs ago and I could hold my leg there without the bar to rest it on, but now I'm an old codger I need all the help I can get just taking it easy and trying to make sure I don't injure myself, because that really sets me back more and more these days.

I know what you mean Ditch, I'm not quite 40 yet and any knocks take longer to recover from. The hardest part for me is the diet and cardio. My commitment to the gym a) actually going, b) quality time whilst there and c) trying new exercise is good and at 5 days a week I think I put enough effort in.
The diet a few months ago was great, I went from the hike of almost 15 stone to 13.4 with Keto, however a few situations occurred where I ended up cheating the lifestyle a little and after a week of doing this I decided to skip the diet and ended up eating like a mobile worker!
Anyway I'm aware that in the new year it needs to get back on track, in fact I'm starting now a liitle by phasing in Whey protein for breakfast with a handful of good supplements that I can't get at that time (omega 3, cod liver, vit D, multi vit, raspberry extract, green tea extract, BCAA, Alpha men, and Glucosamine sulphate) and I've just started ordering my meat again from www.bestinbury.co.uk
Hopefully pull it back round in the new year and enter tough mudder!
Ditch, I hope I've that level of flex at 50!

I was fitness mad in my youth, but it was all martial arts based, did a bit of weights but nothing too serious, loads of press ups and sit ups, bench press and bicep curls were our thing, then as most people life got in the way but I always still did a bit at home and lead an active outdoor lifestyle.
These days I'm more about sustainability so don't really want to be getting into anything that requires a load of commitment and I'm too old for all that, 50 isn't the time to be starting body building, so it's just general maintenance.
I eat healthy real food mostly fresh local produce, too much carbs as I like my rice and potatoes, bread and beer, but I've never been one for diets or eating plans, I take chelated Zinc, the odd magnesium tablet, a spoon of honey everyday and I've just bought some milk thistle tablets, I also do the odd batch of parsley tea and some plant that grows here that's good for kidneys and prostate when it's in season.
I think life's too short to deny myself the few things I enjoy, I'm not chasing women so don't need the body of a god I just like to feel good and burn off the excesses of my lifestyle choices, also don't fancy being ready for the knackers yard at 60.

You've a great sense of humour Ditch, and as for chasing women, your never too old unless your comfortably in a relationship, which I guess you are! Good job on removing the face with the felt pen
My fitness and diet is more about lifestyle, I know I talk about fitness and diet as though they are separate, but that's only because I needed to change my lifestyle around and by "controlling my macros" the diet, and "setting goals at the gym" the fitness I could control my lifestyle better. It's all too easy to think you have or you are controlling your lifestyle to a healthy standard, but unless you actually strip it right back and look at the integral parts most folk aren't doing it right.
I see/talk to people at work discussing how well they are doing on a so called diet, and by diet I mean they are dieting. One of the examples are, this guy going to the gym every day and eating one M&S diet ready meals very day inc weekend and wrong fruits for the rest of the day, and they never seem to drink at all, not even the odd brew.... He's bragging about his weight loss, all I see is someone changing to the wrong skin colour and starting to look like skin and bone because he's simply not getting any good macros!
Some people say the correct lifestyle is a fine balance, it's not by any stretch of the imagination, it just about control and disciplin and slight variations actual help
You seem to have the right balance Ditch, nothing wrong with a few beers. I could be a athlete I'm sure if I tried hard enough, but I would be miserable!
Rob
Ps had a hot curry and around 8 pints last with work Christmas do, I'll jog it off later collecting my car 5 mile away

You've got me going talking about curry and beer, well ale for me, I'm back in the uk in a few days and the list is as follows.
Loads of ale.
Fish and chips.
Kebab.
Chinees.
Curry.
Pork pie.
Sausage Rolls.
Cornish Pasties.
Roast lamb on xmas day.
Roast Pork and beef dinners.
Samosas and Packora from the indian deli.
and a few rounds of chips and gravy, with the odd battered sausage thrown in for good measure.
That is basically the only things I miss about England, so you can see why I won't be bothering to try giving up anything before I get back after xmas.
Oh and baked beans, Heinze of course.
