Its just like migweb. The same questions get asked over and over again. Rather then people type and type they call you a ****** and tell you to use the crap search button.
At the same time people get bored and realise there are girls outside. They ditch the web for women...

I think a lot of us do try and help, but all you can do is point someone in a direction then it depends on them and how thorough they are in checking things like vacuum pipes etc in this instance.

First off, the people who were here when I joined were the people doing the research and development that we benefit from now. They have moved onto other things and no longer post. Some have passed away. But their knowledge remains, you just have to look for it. Or ask for it.
Secondly, if I've posted the SAME answer to a question about overheating/refilling coolant, or what coolant to use, once, I'll have posted it fifty times. I can find it myself using search...so why can't newbies? It's because they often do one search and give up, or don't bother, just post. After all, we ALL think OUR car is the most important and that OUR question should generate an instant answer, don't we? I mean, be honest? And the coolant question is just an example.
So when I see that question now, and I haven't time to type it all out again, I refer them to my posts on the subject...should make it easier to find. IF they then come back later and say they still can't find it, I often find the time to re-type it.
Thirdly, the make-up of the site has changed A LOT. If you post now with advice gained from YEARS working with, owning and discussing these cars, you quite often get shouted down...and not politely, I might say. I generally find the tech knowledge is better/more available on sites such as NASIOC, but there are still some very clever people on SNet - just not posting quite so much any more.
The Technical Topics Archive here doesn't get anywhere near the publicity it deserves, there are some gems in there

I recently started using SN again after being away for a while, and enjoy coming on and browsing and also TRY to help as much as I can. Some good guys on here

Its not about Google though,its about a community of subaru owners being mates and sharing experiences and asking advice. Yes there is a search option (which is usually hard work) and also defeats the object of being a community and you might aswell just google it and be Billy no mates lol. If the questions have been asked before then surely long term members can answer them quickly & easily or provide a link to an old post! At the end of the day there is only so many questions/topics you can talk about when it comes to cars,especially one particular make of car,so things are bound to be repeated (often). if people are sick of answering stuff they know about which I can appreciate gets boring repeating yourself or questions are not challenging enough,then you need to have a break from this site and maybe take a new hobbie so you can appreciate whats its like to be a newby again

If I see a question I haven't answered before, or not recently, and I CAN answer, I will.
But if I only responded the week before........?????
And what should I do if I get asked the same question, but the last time I answered, the responder was rude, abusive etc, and loads of his mates turned up and basically slagged me off? Because I didn't give the answer he wanted?
And what should I do if I've given an answer from my own experience, but responder argues that that can't be the case because it was "fine on my RS Turbo"?

It's a bit more complicated than the last two posts make out.......yes, it's an internet site, NOT a database, but lots of folk use it AS a database, myself included.
Be sensible: If you approached, say, CAB for advice, then were rude, abusive and argued against the advice, telling all and sundry that they talk crap "because they are old", what do you imagine MIGHT be their response if you ask again? And if this happened time and tiome again, do you imagine the advisers just might withdraw their services?

Agree totally with Alcazar.
What I see more and more is new, lazy members.
Because they don't want to pay for the full membership, they try to be sneaky by listing their car for sale in DIY or some obscure section.
Others post a thread about a which dump valve to fit. It doesn't matter how logical you make the argument for keeping the standard valve, they have it set in their mind that they have to spend money on something. Usually at the expense of proper maintenance.
And it really does **** me off when they come out with the same old cr&p - 'I've searched but couldn't find anything.' Most are either lying or just haven't read the sticky on how to use the search function properly.
Then there are the great posts about being slower than car X, Y or Z.
May be it's a maturity thing.
Personally, I don't think this site has gone down hill. It went through a bad patch a few years ago when it seemed to be fashionable to 'troll'. And the infractions....oh the infractions!
But today, I think the site has got rid of a lot of dead rot so to speak.
It is nice to see new blood getting interested in the Impreza, but all too often, it is ruined by bad knowledge/mods.

Always had help with everthing I've needed help with from the guy's on here. Just need patience for the right lads to respond. Usually when the search won't find what I need on the site I type it in google and that finds what I need on scoobynet. Hate to mention RS25 but love the technical archives and modding sections there. Wish SN had the same but I still think SN is great. I do see the same question asked over and over hear though.

But imagine how UTTERLY SH1TE it would be if every newby asked the SAME two or three questions? And then argued against the answer he got? Rudely?
And that's how it's getting.
If I see a question I haven't answered before, or not recently, and I CAN answer, I will.
But if I only responded the week before........?????
And what should I do if I get asked the same question, but the last time I answered, the responder was rude, abusive etc, and loads of his mates turned up and basically slagged me off? Because I didn't give the answer he wanted?
And what should I do if I've given an answer from my own experience, but responder argues that that can't be the case because it was "fine on my RS Turbo"?
Should I bother in future?
It's a bit more complicated than the last two posts make out.......yes, it's an internet site, NOT a database, but lots of folk use it AS a database, myself included.
Be sensible: If you approached, say, CAB for advice, then were rude, abusive and argued against the advice, telling all and sundry that they talk crap "because they are old", what do you imagine MIGHT be their response if you ask again? And if this happened time and tiome again, do you imagine the advisers just might withdraw their services?

The regulars are getting fed up of the same old questions though
Last year dump valves were done to death with many 5-10 pages
Yet we still get them asking
I fact can't remember the last new technical question that no one could answer
But the search is good and will produce many threads if used

IMO if youre a newb then you won't get a reply from the regulars because like been said above been asked previously and they don't know what kind of reply their going to get back wether it be abuse or not listen to advise given as a lot have done this prior, and with the new wave of Subaru owners that have been bought cheaply brings in the new breed that have come from Saxos etc so that breed is not what Subaru enthusiasts like as they use txt speech and so on.
However if it's a regular that posts a question then you'll see it gets answered as the repliers know what their getting.

Not so much out of fashion, just that the newer Imprezas left something out.
So people looked, saw, and bought something else.
When I bought mine, (1998), first off I had to order and wait a MINIMUM of six months for it to come. It has/had the looks of most Tokyo taxis. The interior was/is poorly finished, and lacking even the most basic stuff like cupholders, plus it rattles and squeaks like a good'un. But there was absolutely NOTHING near it in terms of performance for the money...I know, I looked, and I looked for three months!
However, once the import restrictions came off, things went downhill. My model won several awards for reliability, and customer satisfaction. Dealers were keen to help.
Oh how things have changed.
Still we get a car not as good as the ones sold in japan, and still we pay heavily MORE than they do.
But the reliability has gone, dealers are keen to absolve themselves of any responsibility and even the looks have got MORE bland and ugly, if that were possible.
So is there any wonder that those who owned and loved the classics, have not really taken to a newage? And especially not the dreaded hatch?
I mean, seriously? Mine runs 400/400 or so in a classic. It also has coilovers, and other suspension mods.
I'd be a fool to swap it for a newer car which would be worse in everything EXCEPT newness and interior. Unless I had £££££ to mod again. I haven't.
