This is the problem that the Impreza has, people get behind the wheel and automatically think they're ******* invincible.

Then something goes wrong and they run out of talent very quickly.

Sad sad story, only the Astra driver will know what happened, racing each other on the limit is only going to end in tears.
Feel sorry for all families involved.

Look, don't get me wrong, we've all done silly things.
I would hold me hands up to a bit of fun in all my Impreza's, including roundabout antics - but only ever on a clear road.

I like to think I can drive a bit, and have done many rallying events in the past.
Put it this way, I know exactly what I shouldn't ever do on a public road.

Presumptions and assumptions are bread and butter for newspapers and what help condemn scooby drivers to the ranks of undesirables.
Two vehicles in a head on at 60mph each="well over 100mph" as well

No it don't, 2 cars hit at 60 mph head on is the same as hitting a solid wall at 60

If the solid wall is doing 60 mph towards you...impact speed would be 120mph

The closing speed would be 120 mph yes, but the damage caused to each car would be the same as if they hit a solid wall at 60 mph

It would be like hitting a solid wall doing 120mph...Get someone to slap you standing still and then ask them to slap you again but this time throw your face into the slap

lol...it's been a long time since I went to school...I see your point (force = mass x acceleration)...although they did hit a lorry

^^^^^ This is true ^^^^^ "Every action has an equal and oppsite reaction" So like hitting a wall at 60. Either way not nice...

RIP to the people involved.
The papers saying nitros was involved is just a crappy way to link these deaths to the "Fast and Furious" deaths of Paul Walker and the culture that it depicts.
People will still lap it up and the left wing numpties will have all cars with more power than a golf cart banned blah blah blah

Interesting.... I would have thought that the combined speed would have caused more damage, but as explained at the end of the video, the combined speed/damage is shared between the mass of the 2 vehicles involved, hence damage consistent with a 50mph collision with a solid wall.

Horrible news, my thoughts are with their families. Sounds like an early classic racing with an astra the silly boys. But we've all done silly things, and luckily live to tell the tale.
With the price of early classics so low now, and them being quicker than anything else for £1k things like this are inevitable.

That's surely where the masses are near equal. There is a significant mass differential between a 40ton lorry at 60mph and a 1.4 tonne Subaru.

This is why a car at 40mph has a head on with a fly doing 40mph has not enough mass to de-accelerate the Car and will result in the Fly going splat as if he'd hit a wall at 80mph

IMHO

RIP & Condolences got their families

Tony

horrid thing to happen

trouble is because 2 people in the Astra have been arrested until it all comes out in court we may never know what actually happened and with all things like this it is Chinese whispers as to what went on.......

nothing to do with this accident but there was a terrible accident in Swindon earlier this year where 2 girls lost there lives and then it came out in court that the driver had been drinking and the passenger had her legs out of the window showing off etc and none of this was known or said at the time so Chinese whispers...

She also stood on the brakes for no reason causing the car to skid and it was then that she lost control and left the road hitting trees and rolling the car etc.
