p1 or v6 sti type r limited

I thought the P1 had a prodrive remap? and that was the cause for the engine problems?.

Anyway's you're very local to me. Glad to hear you're comfortable with sorting arches . I also am having similar running problems to you.

I'm thinking back to your thread now, didn't you say that the engine was replaced and the problems started?

Kwik... yes the engine never run as sweet as it should on idle when hot, the old engine was perfect, until the shell on number 3 stripped itself causing a knock

But issue that it has now is more serious intermittant misfire, maybe the problem is something to do with re-mapping, but to my knowledge the re-mapping issue (if there is one) was not the cause of original engine failier

Prodrive never mapped the P1 for uk fuel, it has the standard jap v5 map. This was the problem.

so presume it was re-mapped anyway if it was required? bearing in mind car has been running about in UK for last 14 years.

But how does a re-map effect the poor oil supply exactly?

If re-map is required now then how come my old engine run fine and so did this one for 10 weeks until it started having intermittant misfire issue?

Also correct me if I'm wrong but thought the re-map was required only if you run car on standard 95 fuel, but not required if run on 97

The erratic idle when hot is possibly the lambda sensor playing up.

New Lambda arrived today, (after receiving wrong one last week) being fitted tomorrow but hope it sorts all my running issues not just poor idle when hot.
I will not hold my breath though, 4 days ago my MGZT V6 lost it's clutch pedel and yesterday I borrowed my sons Punto Sport and a stupid girl T boned me on a roundabout and wrote it off

Still where there's blame there's a claim, and my neck hurts

However if you get a fresh import it will have been run on nice >99ron Japanese fuel, whereas uk cars will have often only ran on 95-97ron. For standard uk turbos this was 'ok', but for the p1 with its type r ecu over time this has potential to cause engine issues (as well documented). Either way, an early remap for p1 or fresh import is/was pretty imperative in protecting the engine

I doubt if anyone is stupid enough to run a P1 or any turbo scooby on 95, but if a inport was not re-mapped I presume it would be the head and valves that suffer?

The guy I bought the replacement engine from even suggested a re-map is required with every engine change to get best performance, so when my issues are sorted, (and possibly new injectors and turbo fitted in the spring) I will get it on a rolling road and re-mapped anyway.

This is the main reason for so many engine failures with the P1, Prodrive had to use Broquets in the tank to add octane value because The japs wouldn't allow a custom map on the P1 that would ultimately give it better performance figures than both the 22B or type R.
