Not many really hollow/barrelly breaks around here but there are some to be had. In that top one, I was the only one surfing that side of the beach.

Winter here is great!
You're right Matteeboy, although I reckon Cornwall winter surfing is an acquired taste and not for everybody. It's often warmer in than out too. Hoods, boots and gloves and just hardcore surfers to share the waves with.

Some nice waves in your pictures!

Mattee, where are you?

Here's my local from a few months ago

Paben, you're right about the cold, I've had enough of that now, so in the winter I take the camera and dogs down.

Oilman; we were in Malpas so PT was my nearest break, now a minute from Polzeath beach.

Never caught Falmouth Reefs working despite checking many times!

My brother got a shot of Gyllynvase reef working years ago on a dodgy waterproof 35mm camera, so can't put the pic up. He reckoned it was good. I've had a few sessions at Maenporth wedge and it was quite good fun.

That pic I put up is the rivermouth in Hayle. 3 boards snapped in the hour or so that I was there, one of the best days I've seen it.

Oops - I got that a bit wrong!

I caught HRM/Gwithian on THE Sunday last year; it was absolutely awesome!! Took a few (pretty poor) snaps of it after I'd surfed for about 2.5 hours!

I have a feeling that may have been when I took that picture, somewhere around the end of October. I think I took about 200 or more shots in an hour or so, that one I put up wasn't a one off, there were a lot like that.

Great looking waves guys but no one out, unless that's a lone boogie boarder a bit out of shape on your second picture, Mattee? I haven't surfed for a couple of years now, too far inland, but the sound and sight of the ocean always stirs something, and now those pictures have got me ticking again. Who'd have thought that on a Subaru forum!

I think there is a bodyboarder on the 2nd PT pic. It was surprisingly quiet!
Oilman; yep, that's the day. Utterly classic waves.

It's gone flat again now so frothing for more waves!

Don't you watersport loving guys n' gals feel cold in the British waters? Just wondering, because it's not exactly swimmable with its freezing temperature, is it? even in Summer, it remains quite cold most days. Brrr.........

We have some friends who do a lot of kayaking, surfing etc. inland (or should I say inwater). They say you get used to it. Things you do for love, eh.

While I'd love to pretend it's because I'm well ard, it's mostly because wetsuits are so much better than they used to be.

I'll be in a Winter Xcel (the best wetsuits IMO) with boots, gloves and a thermal rash vest (bit never a hood) in the cold months. About 1.5 hours is the limit but the ideal thing is, I walk two minutes up the hill and have a hot shower at home; it makes a big difference!

Old thread revival…

It's been a pretty poor Winter for waves with non stop storms and onshore winds but I've just had a week of surfing pretty much every day - today was VERY good and sunny too. My shoulders are moaning, my head is nicely weathered and I'm smiling from ear to ear!
