This advice = Rubbish
You dont know what camera is aiming at you so you cant be in its "blind spot"
Do people not htink the people who design these things are also drivers and will have spent an awful lot of R+D time figuring out ways to stop people dodging them? lol.
Seriously, some people are so niáve.
I agree they have a tolerance as i usually do 2/3mph over the limit anyway. But you never know what one is aiming at you or what ones are paired so you can try and dodge them as much as you like but you will always get had sooner or later

This does not apply to the temporary ones for roadworks, as they are temporary.
I wont get had because I don't speed through them anyway, I was just offering some information on how they actually work. Which I'm pretty sure was the point of this thread in the title....

Once upon a time, but not the modern ones.
They are linked together at a hub and use a version of ANPR to identify vehicles. If they are active then slowing down at them is pointless if your average speed between them is too high. I don't believe most obtain any recorded evidence of the driver, so the registered keeper will get the NIP.

As far as the M25/M42 variable zones go, I have seen cameras flash on a couple of occasions when the variable limit was not in force but somebody on the opposite carriageway passed one at what I would estimate to be 100+mph, so I take care when passing any 'live' camera in these variable zones.

I hate the average speed cameras on the M25 north section at the moment. Trucks don't seem to care and still sit on their limiters of 56mph and end up sitting right on the **** of people doing an indicated 50mph. Even if I've gone by 50mph on the SatNav speedo which shows an indicated 54-ish on the proper speedo there are still loads of people flying past.

ok, after posting on this and then travelling up the m62 last night, I got flashed by a camera in the managed motorways section. The signs on the gantrys went from 60 to 50 then to 40. I dropped speed from the nsl to 60 and then 50, but didn't slow down to 40 at the next gantry. Result was a double flash I assume I will get 3 points

theres a few miles of specs cameras between Troon and Girvin in Ayrshire, one of the main costal routes for the irish HGV boys that have left the ferry. those lot just fly through them and most have there limiters set at 56mph+. i dont take the risk with SPECS when im driving the wagon unless the wagon in front has its limiter set the same as mine, then i just tuck in nicely behind it. the angle n height the cameras are, vs the height of the back of a trailer n how low my number plate is on the bumper means the cameras cant see my number plate. happy days

The specs on a section of the A12 at the moment in the roadworks are rear facing. Didn't think they worked that way round. Must upset the bikers in the area.
