I won't get into this one too much, as it obviously instills strong opinions in both parties.

Just ask a narrowboat owner for their views on fishing (or perhaps, more accurately, the people doing the fishing - especially the nice considerate ones who pitch up right on the lock landings and then get the right hump when you try and moor a boat up )

Personally, there are a lot worse things going on (unless of course, you are a fish ) that require our attention.

Gold Valley would be a good bet. Quite easy and plenty of mid doubles. Had over 200 fish out in 22 hours last year. Packed up as my arm was in agony !

Nah mate, bury hill fisheries down near dorking. Thew've got 3 lakes all with a huge **** off aireators on them. hot summers day and I had 6 carp out all on trout pellet.
My mate also had 4 carp out on the same day. At one point we were playing a fish ( I had the net and he was playing it to it) and all of a sudden my rod started dancing on the rests. I just caught it as it started going in. both double figure fish in the end. It was insane!

how would you like to woken for sunday breakfast by some ****** ripping a piece of metal through your cheek? and then dragging you into an environment where you cannot breathe and then handling you with red hot hands?
..sounds like a good session with the misses.

i have seen an "angler" stab a pike (about 4 or 5 lbs) through the head with a rod rest to retrieve his lure.

also fisherman armed with mini clubs for bashing fish on the head.

If the fishermen are killing the fish intentionally (to then take home and eat) then what did you expect them to do - cuddle them to death?

I'll ask again, jjones, are you a vegetarian?

This fish was killed to retrieve the lure (from inside the pikes mouth).

Mark I am not a vegatarian but a vegan.

But my diet is not the reasoning behind this thread - i have seen things that make me beleive that fishing is barbaric.

I am not in any way worried that animals are slaughtered to feed people but what does bother me is that people cause pain to other creatures purely for pleasure.

Fair enough then. I can't argue with that.

It matters because, as I suggested earlier, I suspect that a large number of the anti-fishing lobby who've posted on this thread are probably not vegetarians.

If they aren't, then their opinion is effectively meaningless (or else it's massively hypocritical) since the cruelty inflicted during the slaughter of animals for food is infinitely worse than any 'cruelty' inflicted on a fish by an angler.

That's some pretty twisted logic if you ask me.

But at least you seem to acknowledge that fishing *is* cruel, so that's a start

the lure was in the pikes mouth and looked like it would be easy get out. no attempt was made, however, and he simply killed it and then got the lure out.

this is not the only fishing "horror" that i have witnessed which is why i think that fishing is wrong.

Exclamation

It's not twisted at all.

What gives somebody the right to condemn the actions of a fisherman on the grounds of cruelty, when something they do every day (eating meat) is directly responsible for inflicting far more direct and horrific cruelty on animals which have proven suffering in the process?

Sounds like massive hypocrisy to me.

And I'm not denying/agreeing that fishing may or may not be cruel. I've yet to see any scientific evidence which proves it one way or the other. I don't fish, because I don't agree with it, but I can't condemn anglers either - I like a bit of cod & chips on a Friday night as much as the next man.

I was off work on Friday and seeing as it was a sunny day I went to see a mate who was fishing. It was incredibly boring. I don't care how cruel it is or isn't to the fish, the people who do it are obviously retarded in some way to get enjoyment out of something so uninteresting and unexciting.

I like mountain biking. It keeps me fit and I get to see some wildlife in the evenings - deer, foxes, rabbits, swans and stuff.

Part of my route is along the canal towpath, out of (fishing) season it is fine, but then the 'anglers' pitch up and they seem to think they own the place. They leave loads of plastic rubbish lying around, pitch those stupid tent things obstructing the path, they leave various items of junk lying across the path whilst they wander off to see what thier mates are doing and get all sniffy when you ask them to move thier c**P out of the way.

And there is the other thing nobody has mentioned, they leave dicarded line and wieghts and hooks lying around which animals that live on the canal bank get tangled up in, poisened by etc.

In short, these guys are a menace.

I'd be up for a days carp fishing with the scoobynet fishermen.

Maybe we could get the non-fishermen there also?

but I bet they don't have scoobies anyway.

Cool

Typical a Mountain biker, tish, tish..

Carving up the countryside, destroying rare plants and disturbing other peoples quiet gentle walks in the countyside.

Now, they should be banned or at least should have to pay for a licence like us fishermen have to.

Have you seen the damage to the green lanes that has been done by mountain bikers?

Nature is cruel. We are designed to eat meat. Accept it.

I'm off to torture a cat.

what does driving scoobies have to do with the price of fish (pardon the pun)?

if the search worked you could try searching for R738AVC.

Just wanted to point out to you that one mans fish is another mans poison...

I have fished for years, don't leave any rubbish behind, always take great care how I handle any fish I catch, never used a keep-net and really enjoy my quiet time fishing.

btw I ride a bike too!!

Now we all enjoy our sports and hobbies, so just go and enjoy yours.

A scoobynet Fishathon is on
Do you think we could blag Jjones and uncle Buck to come along?

Want to beat my 20LB mirror carp record

tsch tsch a naughty mountain biker, you know the ones who hog all the road neally causing accidents, the ones that go on dirt tracks eroding the natural landscape, destroying our precious worms and other small insects that cant fight back, wiping out lovely flowers and fauna because of their off road antics.
You get my point.Dont tar every fisherman/woman with the same "dont give a shi**"brigade.

Mr jjones, I am one of those club wielding guys.
However, what you fail to point out is that the "club" is about 6" long and weighs about 4 ounces.
Doubtless you were trying to portray that fishermaen are using baseball bats. If I did then I would be taking fish puree home with me.
It is used to despatch a fish (trout in my case) off to fishy heaven before I take it home for my supper.
Perhaps a bit of education on the sport may not go amiss before such emotive statements are shrieked by antis.
