Hi there

As I said depends on yours budget and what you want, but if you want have all gauges, which people over here mentioned(Fuel Pressure,Boost,Oil temp,Oil pressure, water temp,EGT and wideband etc) you can end with 7 gauges

Aftermarket ECU are not bloody expensive,I rather spend extra for ECU which can save my engine and will allow me to do what I want

Dash is easy to operate, you have 4 buttons as most, programming is easy and depends on SW,how is easy

Toucan operation is easy too and TimH@jti.uk.com is great guy and very helpful

Steve you will be OK with MXL Strada and just would recommend get Syvecs Sensor pack, wire them to ECU and configure dash for those sensors(I've seen the SW and read manual and seems is easier than Race Technology SW)

Looking forward to see pictures when will be fitted

Nice one Steve

You will have great dash and with those sensors you don't need to have all those gauges plus trip function on Syvecs is good to have and which I can only recommend

So how much is the total cost to get Toucan up and running and does it HAVE to be with syvecs?

For the toucan and sensor pack(but you might need one or two more) and loom is around £800 then you need either a syvecs or simtek/Alcatek so around £2.5k all in on the syvecs or closer to £2k for the latter option, Makes defis sound cheap now

Currently no option for the OEM ecu, Personally I prefer the gauges as they are all visable at all times with a quick glance, Not so keen on the size of the toucan screen personally...But it is a cracking bit of kit.

Id go with gauges everytime over toucan. Not denying its a cracking bit of kit but it looks a little too much like a fancy tom tom for my liking.
Cant beat the look of a good set of gauges imo.

FYI, when an alarm occurs for a given gauge it can be set to automatically pop up full screen - this makes it the same size as a 52mm gauge and very readable. Most users find they stop looking at Toucan and rely on the alarms going off to warn you of problems. And if you want to monitor a specific parameter for some reason, you can pop that gauge up full screen by touching it.

Couple that with the ability to monitor all sorts of stuff from just the one neat package and it makes for quite a comprehensive monitoring solution. For example, the latest firmware release added a "lean out alarm" - it monitors boost, rpm and lambda, and looks for the sort of lean out you might get as a result of pipework coming adrift, a mapping problem, or fuel pressure dropping off (although, of course, you have a separate alarm for that too). You get the idea anyway.

Oh, and it was never intended to replace something like a Race Dash or AIM dash etc - it's meant to complement it.

But I do appreciate it is not everyone's cup of tea

I see everyone talking about the differential pressure on the Defi's between boost and fuel? Someone care to explain and how to setup? I'm just about to wire in my fuel pressure gauge...

No problem, When you have the boost gauge and fuel pressure gauge, You have a little red light on the left hand side of the controller(differential), When it is off it will show you relative fuel pressure so if you are running standard FP say3 bar, When you go into boost say at 1 bar your FP gauge will show 4bar if fuel pressure as it adds fuel and boost pressure together.

When in differential mode with the red light on it will show 3bar regardless of what boost and should be reasonably stable at that figure, This is where it came in handy for me as I had my alarm set at 42psi(mine are in psi, lol) and as soon as I hit boost it was dropping around 10psi, With also having an AFR gauge it was obvious it wasn't getting enough fuel so I swapped the pump and it was all good again.

To select between the 2 options you just press the up and down buttons together on the controller and should be indicated by the red light.

I'm inclined to agree. I know the Toucan is a brilliant piece of kit and Tim (Hardistry) is a great bloke who has been on Snet since time began I also prefer the theatre and drama of a multiple gauge set up. The opening sweep to the visual circus when it's dark. I was going to go for some Prosport Evo gauges till I read this.

If you could get it to work with the standard ecu I'm sure you'd get some takers.

Will be launching support for a whole load more after-market ECUs in a month or so...and then OEM ECU support is next on the list

This one, its a bit like when the PSI data monitor came out. I had one fitted in my car and it was constantly on boost as you never took any notice of the other ones it looked at?

I got rid of that and put defi's in as they look the part and tell you what you want

Matter of taste, and fair play: each to their own.

Only if you keep looking at them which you should NOT be doing!!! Yes, you can set alarms, and *then* you look at them. Why waste time looking at gauges when your eye should be on the road? My argument is to let technology work for you and draw your attention to problems when they happen - big gauge (well, 52mm lol), in front of you, beeping away, complete with peak markers etc.

But, as I said, each to their own

Another thing with gauges is you can get an oem looking pod for them.
i personally hate stuff stuck to dashboards and windscreens.

toucan is a great bit of kit though

Now that's some sensible feedback...I have briefly looked at a pod for a Toucan and have someone willing to give making one a go: perhaps I should crack on with that.

Basically, I will listen to any criticism - constructive or not - and do anything I can to improve the product. I used to have a set of gauges, but only tended to look at them to check the oil was warm enough to go on boost. So, when developing Toucan, I made sure there was a low oil temp warning - a nice orange border to the oil temp gauge so, at a glance, you can see if it's up to temp.

So - any suggestions, and I'm listening hard

For me its the look of it that I don't like. It just looks like an aftermarket part bolted onto the dash of a car. Yes i know, thats exactly what it is but i as many others like the interior mods to look almost factory. With gauges you can fit them into pods that mirror the dash material, gauges just look more factory finish in my opinion. Especially when you can get gauges that light up the same as the dash/speedo etc.

This just looks out of place to me. Amazing technology but not for me.

Having seen the toucan in action i think its a great bit of kit but the way it was mounted was tilted towards the driver in front of a heater vent.
i personally wouldnt be happy with that.
but if you came up with an oem looking mounting solution that would help sell an excellent product

Good points guys. I've seen some lovely custom installs customer's have done but, of course, they were done by folk who had skills in that area, and the time to sort it. Here's one:

I will see what I can do to come up with a centre pod that works well in a Scoob

There are 3 colour schemes (red, green, white) that suit the majority of instrument colours...and no one has ever asked for a different colour scheme. That said, I hope to introduce a "choose your own colour" option in a later update. FYI updates have been made available to all users, no matter how long they've had their unit, and free of charge

Hi there

You still can buy sometimes used Toucan and sensor pack, you can re-use sensors from DEFI or other makers, just speak with TimH,he can rewire them for you

ECU this is more personal preference and most important for me is functions, not just price

As above I've said, you still can buy used Toucan or on 22b has been Group Buy,about the sensors pack, you still can use DEFI sensors or any others sensor, just I would suggest speak to the TimH

ECU as above depends what you want from ECU,I would rather spend little more on ECU which can allow me to run what I want

DEFI are good, but still overpriced and still I prefer our old one Shadow gauges, which has been just great(still I'm using Shadow Boost gauge)

Here is how it looks with all those gauges, but we prefer now our new setup with less gauges

First one setup(8 gauges in total)

Second setup(7 gauges in total plus Knock link and Race Technology DASH2)

Third setup(Toucan,Race Technology DASH2,Shadow Boost gauge)
