Rebuild times??
Thanks for the opinions and comments peeps has certainly made feel a little less paranoid and has definatly confirmed my thoughts that this has clearly been going on too long now.
The clever people that have gone through my previous posts 😊 well done it took you all long enough I assumed everyone would have done this sooner I'd just be very grateful if you could please not public announce names on the forum until I have at least got my sti back.
I will keep you all posted on this thread as to how long it actually takes and the final outcome.

To the OP.
You already know the answer to this mate:
If the place in question has indicated that your car will be ready at a certain time and it is not and you feel that communication has been lacking, then regardless of what ANYONE says on here, as far as you -the customer- is concerned, there IS a problem.
Go and have a polite, but firm word with the boss, calmly explain the situation and 90% if they accept there is fault at their end, they will make things right. None of them want a pissed off customer or bad publicity!
From experience I know that forged rebuilds can take longer than expected, which makes them no different to any other kind of mechanical repair, BUT obviously you feel that at the very least there is a communication issue here which needs to be resolved.
Good luck,
Ns04

This is us here at APi and to say we embarrassed is an understatement. Our normal turnaround time is 4-5 weeks and this spring we have been caught out badly for two reasons. These are not excuses, there is no excuse for a delay like this.
It is perfectly true, that the machine shop that does our conversion work were busy just before Easter and farmed it an again. The new engineers, who we know, but don't deal with directly managed to misunderstand and convert all three blocks; 2 x EJ20 closed deck type and 1 x EJ22 turbo Block to front thrust crank instead of rear thrust crank. All 3 were ruined beyond use. A total disaster in many ways.
That was the work we had planned to be doing for the week before and after Easter. We had to chase around and buy 3 more blocks [ that they have now paid for ] to start the process all over again. That left us with no actual work that we could do in the weeks before and after Easter as all other jobs in here weren't in a position to pick up on and get going in the system and complete in the timescale. So we lost 2 weeks.
They took nearly 2 weeks to get going their act together and machine the replacement blocks correctly. Cos we were yelling at them to get that work done ASAP to catch up, they dropped all of our other machining work. Which they then had to start again from a standstill. We were helpless to do anything. These people have been our preferred machinists for many many years and everyone is allowed a **** up at some time. Never happened before.
We work on a strictly first in first out basis for jobs, so jumping the queue is never an option. If someone has been waiting patiently for their car to be done it is not fair to do anything in preference through bribery, or shouting at us.
So of course our schedule has gone right out of the window for many customers and we are trying to catch up and have been ever since Easter.
As I said, not our usual form and deeply embarrassiing. Those of you that know APi will know that this is an unusual situation for us and we regret delaying Tom and several other customers. All of whom are being patient with us.
We do look after our customers and will do so in all cases.
Apologies to all, David APi

Thanks - I've always said if we f*ck up, we'll take it on the chin. I've been around too long to try the antics of some others who try to lie their way out.

Also in the same boat at week 16. Was 'hoping' to get it back tomorrow as the engine just needed going in the car. And then a mot. After just getting off the phone turns out its still waiting to go in....
I had Bob Rawle put a running in map on mine. It put the engine under some load and allows 0.5 bar of boost to help bed the rings in and stop it becoming an oil burner.
Yh ive got a running in map on mate. Its got a 4k rev limit on too but sticking to 3k for 500miles. Ordered some ksport 8pots with feredo pads today too so they should be on before its fully ran in. Cant wait!
Just thought I'd let you all know I picked my car back up from api on Monday and I couldn't be happier with it.
Although it was a long wait, it feels well worth it to be driving again especially now my 2.5 is fookin strong!
Credit goes to David and all the guys at api, really nice bunch very friendly and welcoming. Just running her in now the drive already feels very nice stage 2 clutch takes some getting used to lol but it'll certainly be useful in future plans.

Thanks for your patience all of you that were affected.
David and the staff at APi
What were you waiting for? Someone to invent the engine you were putting in? Lol

Tbh for an engine build its worth waiting longer if thats what it takes, id rather that than the engine being rush built and something going wrong with it, i also have first hand experience with using api and tbh i cant doubt them at all, theyre good towards their customers and bend over backwards to make sure youre happy, id wait as long as needed because afterall theyre busy for very good reason, its for this reason my engine went to them.

We are busy, but never too busy to talk to prospective customers. We do our best to make sure they understand how long the job will take. Sometimes events get ahead of us. But NO - ONE ever jumps the queue That isn't fair when folks are patiently waiting.
Have a good weekend all. David
