Thanks. The alarm has a wire that is grounded when armed so I was going to use that via a relay to get 12v when disarmed.

Another quick Q, where is best to get a 12v supply from on a 95 classic? I'm using the big black/yellow wire near the fusebox, but the mirrors fold during cranking which I assume means I have tapped into a supply that drops out when cranking.

Pretty much every supply voltage drops when cranking. Other than connecting directly to the battery, you'll find the mirrors twitching when cranking.

Never used to bother me personally as I went straight from 'off' to cranking without pausing so the mirrors never got a chance to fold out until the engine was running

That easy? No mines a blob widetrack uk spec.. was thinking of buying the jdm mirrors though but wanted to see if there is a easier route. As i had a bmw e46 and it just needed programing in.

You're asking questions about this unit and asking someone to fit it for you when you don't even have folding mirrors yet. I suggest you learn to walk before you run. Folding mirrors do not just simply bolt on to a UK car and start working. Do a little research on here using the search function. Get these fitted to your car and get them working first, then look into the auto-folding kit. You'll need to remove the old mirrors which will mean drilling out some of the bolts holding the mirrors to the door, fit the new mirrors, run some new wires to the passenger side door as the loom for UK cars is missing some wires, fit the new door folding mirror switch assembly into the door, fit the JDM door loom and get it all working.


THEN you can look at fitting the auto-folding thingy.


Sounds like your not mechanical so you'll need to pay a decent garage to do this for you I'd think. It won't be cheap to do. You'll be paying £150 for the mirrors, extra for the loom & switch and then a good few hours labour for fitting & wiring. This could cost you £500 if you're paying labour included.

To be fair Dozza, that looks to be wired correctly. Have you confirmed that the red wire you've wired into is definitely permanently live all the time?

 

^^ this. Also check continuity on all of your wires with a multimeter.

No problems MS. I know you're certainly not doing this for profit involved, only as an enthusiast like me. I'll always help wherever I can.

 

All connections are fine, all cables are fine, tested with a multimeter in continuity mode.

I actually ran a new cable from the footwell into the door as there is no constant 12v in the door in this car. Can confirm that the live I fed to the door is indeed always constant under all conditions.

Any ideas?

In answer to your question, I have a test rig here that I test all the units on before they get sent out. If you could return the one you have, I'll test it when I get it back. If there's something wrong with it, I'll refund your postage (around 3 quid). I'll include return address label so you can re-use the jiffy bag.

Because just as i can use the search function i can also use the function to question and ask about something I'm unsure about in a thread which is related to what i was looking for.

I did state i was clueless about these things and i private messaged the guy thats selling these to see if it was all i needed. As i had a bmw before without it folding the mirrors in but after programming them in without changing anything else was all that needed doing. Bump. Still have a few of these from the last crop.

 

Finally fitted mine to my hatch and works fine. Might look at hooking it up to central locking instead of ignition as can't check for traffic behind when stepping out of the car. Is this feasible?

 

Not sure, don't think anyone's tried, but I suspect not given how the unit works.

Easiest way would be to fit a turbo timer. The mirrors would fold in after the countdown.

 

Ooh I've never liked the idea of a turbo timer,but i might fit one just for this reason
