If the switch is the same as the classic Impreza then just use the positions of the wires on the connector given in the instructions rather than any wire colours. Orient using the earth wire.

 

This still the case mate? I'm interested in one. How much are they?
Quick question, I have a 2004 JDM which has auto close mirrors as standard - button based not ignition. Recently my driver side one failed and doesn't close anymore. Will this fix that? Or will the motor in my actual mirror be knackered?

More than likely the motor has failed in your mirror and the auto-fold won't fix this. You can test this simply by taking your door panel off on the driver side and unplugging the mirror where it goes into the loom. Get 2 long wires and connect these to a +12V and ground. Now carefully connect these to the brown & grey wires coming from your mirror plug.


Connected one way it will fold in, change polarity and it will fold out. If it still doesn't work then it's the mirror. If it does, it's either wiring loom in your door or switch (which I doubt).


I should add that I believe there is a way of resetting the mirror if it has gone over travel. Best look it up somewhere online. Best to leave it in the normal out position to test, then if this doesn't work fully fold it in a test again.

Presumably, you have to prise up the switch moulding, somehow?

 

Same switch as my v3 @joz but mines located on the dash.
I have a set of trim removal tools that I used to prise the switch,looks like yours pops out just the same.

 

I guess a dexterously-used, small flat-head screwdriver does the job?

 

Easy to mark up the plastic with a screwdriver on certain bits of trim,even with the coolest of hands. But yep a screwdriver might be kind for you

 

I'd remove the centre console insert and acess the switch from behind.

Wrap a little bit of tape round the end of the screwdriver, this will help stop any mark-off.

This is preferable.

This is the best solution if you don't have trim tools. It only takes a few minutes to access the underneath and pop the switch out.

When you say "auto close mirrors", what's automatic about it? My 2003 JDM Blob had the same switch as the classics, similar in appearance to the one a few posts above.

 

It's working now thanks. Was using internet explorer earlier and chrome and wouldn't show your signatures at all no matter how hard I tried.

The unit is now fitted and working in my Forester STI. Many thanks and thanks again for the support. I have since modified the switch to make it operate slightly differently than planned. Very pleased now.

I suspect his WRX is standard UK model without folding mirrors to be honest, so no chance.

RCM attempted to fit mine last Friday. Sadly it wouldn't work. I supplied them the correct MY fitting instructions. Any ideas?

(STi 5, with the controls by the handbrake).

Not sure. They're all tested before I send them out. Do you have the car back yet?

1st thing to check is that the connectors that they crimped all have good continuity. Then check that the ones I crimped do too!

Seriously though, every unit is checked thoroughly before I send them on a test rig that I made.

Let me know how you get on. They're pretty simple to fit. Not had a failure yet as far as I know.

 

Yeah, no worries. I'll have a go myself... As the instructions do look idiot-proof TBH (I completely understood them when I read them, etc.)
