Government selling off the gold reserves while gold was at an all time low price, then investing the money in banking and finance.

I left the Army in 2005 before I rejoined in 2008. Completely wasted 3 years of my life in civvie street. Worst decision I ever made without doubt.

Why did I leave?......because of a bloody woman!! I ain't even with her anymore!!! Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!

My brother was in the REME, he left because of a woman, more of a trust thing than anything else, after they eventually split ( as predicted ) he thought of rejoining but didn't, he really struggled initially but I can't say we were upset, being on the phone to him and hearing the sounds of war then not speaking to him for hours :-(

Britain's "decision" the rely almost solely on banks to fuel our economy...

Oh and me forgetting I'm 37 not 25 and deciding I can still drink heavily from 6pm to 1am on Friday. Up all night throwing my guts up, wiped out almost the entire Easter break feeling rough... and in deep trouble with the missus...

Ordering 1 bottle of whiskey 2 bottles of vodka and 10 jaeger bombs as the first round Saturday night was not a great decision.

Financial Services (which obviously includes Banking accounts for 9.5% of UK output

Manufacturing is around 15%

So by definition it is incorrect to state that the country rely's on this important sector to 'soley fuel our economy'.

Despite all the usual guff on here, we are still the 6th biggest manufacturer in the world

what about Tax Receipts?

I have heard as much as 25% of Tax Receipts have come from financial services, is that true?

Indeed the City of London accounts for a very large % of the tax take. That is of course a different matter.

it maybe a different matter, but it is the most important measure, surely

it is what puts money in the "bank"

simple "output" is meaningless if it does not generate much tax revenue

Cheesy but my misses who I was with for a fling years ago and never did anything about it.
Been with some right tools since and it was a waste of time.

So I blame her for not trying hard enough haha

Again I totally agree. Although I never understand whether they mean FS is 25% of all taxation or income, and/or corperate?

Any idea?
