The below information is misleading?

"Call number two.. Esso Helpdesk ( 01483 774200) to make sure that we all haven't mis-read the printed note or gone mad. they kindly confirmed the grade of fuel. Certain stations do have it apparently.. ring them and they can tell you if your's is one of them."

As you have just stated Mike. Esso confirmed to you by phone that THIS month we were able to purchase fuel from our local Esso station that according to their paperwork was 98 RON. . So how is the above misleading.. You've just agreed with me!! they told you that themselves

They are legally obliged to produce that as a minimum. Peter explained to me that occasionally the refining process produces a better quality of fuel nearer to 98 RON and in those instances the refinery will put it on the note. The pumps as stated before show 97 and you quite rightly state this is now the industry standard for UK.

So whilst you are guaranteed 97 a peek at the note may mean you are getting more. "Certain stations MAY have it apparently" how is that incorrect??. The refining process means RON value within a tolerance but as they suggest, If you call your garage, they will be able to tell you what the current batch in their tanks is.

I am still struggling to see the point of your witch-hunt here Mike. I have agreed on an earlier post it would be better to show 98 RON on the text to avoid confusion so what's your problem?

Paul.

My problem is that you stated 98RON fuel is available. People can't rely on that. 97RON is available. so for example 97RON plus Proboost = 99RON, (as opposed to the 101RON that you Imply is possible).

This is no witch hunt it's simply me pointing out the obvious; that you have a habit of avoiding the truth and pointing out how you want stuff to look instead of how it is.

It's misleading for the reasons stated correctly by me in my last post and ignored by you in the following one. It was NOT 98 RON, that is NOT a precise RON figure, merely an approximation of quality for ESSo internally at production level?

Why are you finding this so difficult to take in?
Are you also now implying that your figures rely upon 97RON fuel being 98RON???

I don’t have anything of any technical relevance to add to this discussion but would like to clear up a quote of mine that seems to be re quoted in most replies. I was intending to let this go and have my quote get buried with it. However as this discussion seems to be ongoing, I would not like people to think that I am quite as naive as some quotes appear to suggest.

I have of course not based any level of trust in TSL based on my one fairly brief meeting – however being new to this game, and if you want anything doing to your pride and joy, you have to put your trust somewhere and almost without exception, everyone in this area has told me to

“Get yourself down to TSL – they’re a great bunch of people who know what their doing – they’ll sort you out”

If the people who told me this trust their cars to Paul etc, then that sounds good to me, after all most of them are even more passionate about their cars than I am. If you can’t initially based some trust on personal recommendations, then where the hell are you supposed to start?

This recommendation can, apparently be reiterated by many others according to another ongoing thread on here.

Rant over … don’t really want to get into any arguments over this, just wanted to get it off my chest!
Cheers
BB

I can't see anywhere where it says it takes 97 -101

The point made throughout this thread is that it realistically adds 2-3 octane points to whichever fuel you are using when mixed @3%

therefore. SUL @ 98 =100-101
SUL @97 =99-100

Although Optimax has a name it's still SUL. I am grateful that you were gracious enough to admit that Esso confirmed to you by phone that we had purchased the so called by you "non existant" fuel rated by them at 98 RON. It wasn't "rounded up" as you incorrectly state. If you read back through the post you will see that the whole point of the exercise was to correctly test a 98 RON map on a Motec system. "The fact the car ran perfectly on that fuel, on that map without any reprogramming without any detonation or problem means that the fuel used was of that grade" Richard Bulmer, Motec. None of us can read a delivery note and be sure of the octane of any fuel... but a management system of that sophistication soon gets upset when it's running an octane lower than it's mapped for, under extremee driving. So 98 fuel does occasionally exist at Esso (and others) in certain batches

Perhaps you missed my two earlier posts Mike, for the THIRD time i am happy to print an octane clarifying note on the site to avoid confusion. If your true point was clarity of information surely you would agree that this is the proper and desirable thing to do? and therefore be happy?.. obviously if your motives are other.. this would explain the persistance of your posts

Yes, fantstic at last a feint glimmer of hope.

The point wasn't mine it was raised by NicH, a potential customer who pointed out that your math's appeared to be flawed/ made no sense. The figures were from your own web site I believe?

I salute your persistance and vague claims.
therefore. SUL @ 98 =100-101
SUL @97 =99-100
What does it add to 97RON SUL 2 points or 3?
What does it add to NUL 2 points or three?

Do you see what I mean?
You can't be that vague and then scrutinise petrol UP to the figure you'd like it to be. Clearly it's mislead/misleading people?

Octane manufacturers produce VERY specific performance figures for their products, I know I've examined most of them in depth and am not fortunate enough to be able to play the 'techno retard' card (on this subject).

Why would anybody want a map setting up for a fuel grade that can't be routinely obtained, surely that's asking for trouble? (I suppose that's for another thread though).

As I said right at the start paul, there is no commercial motivation here at all. If you want to drag some in here to muddy the waters, don't be surprised if I don't dive into the water with you.

I'll leave you to your own devices, tell people what you wish, show them what graphs you wish, that is your liberty?

I did read your posts carefully and also the plethora of 'confused' smileys that are within.

I'm sure you are geniune in your steadfast but confused belief that you can't be wrong.

Red face

Huxley.

Not sure what that comment has to do with ANYTHING being discussed here???

This sounds a little like an after the pub post so I'll forgive you. If not, and you feel we have dealt with you poorly, I will gladly show you some of my (poor) customer relations.

Simply send me a mail outlining your issue and I'll look at it.... just as I would have done if you had sent me a mail directly about it in the first place?

If it extends to the fact that we owe you a pound for postage on your dial kit I'm sure that we can even sort that one out as well?
