It depends really, doesn't it. If they're going to have a printed or computerized list of every single model variant and build-year of car which came with an airbag from factory, then yes, you'd get a fail for 'airbag is visibly missing' if you've got an aftermarket non-airbag wheel. If on the other hand all they're going to be doing is visually checking for factory steering wheels that were built to take an airbag but don't have one in there any more (for example, because original airbag deployed when numpty hit a tree or a kerb too hard, car was repaired, but airbag not replaced), then they're not going to care one bit about your (or my 
) non-airbag aftermarket wheel.

The new reg for HID's will catch alot of people out. Aftermarket HID kits with no washers will fail, not sure if the self levelling bit is also checked but I expect a few people will be changing HID's out before MOT now.

Regarding the cat/exhaust, it just mentions this on the .gov website:
Section 7.1, MOI 3
Method of Inspection amended for purpose of clarity, to:
On petrol engine vehicles that qualify for a full catalyst emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter.
Note: To ascertain whether a vehicle qualifies for a full catalyst test, use the flow charts in Section 7.3.C disregarding the result of the Basic Emissions Test.
It doesn't actually mention you have to have the same number as factory fitted just as long as you have one present, and purely seems a visual check.

So after reading the regulations, if headlight washers and leveling systems are not fitted to aftermarket hids then there is no need to test them. I have retrofitted projector hids to my vehicle so should be ok

Could an expert advise on my imminent MOT and my cracked number plate.
Basically, it was probably hit by someone parking and created a star type crack close to one of the mounting screws. Everything is still easily visible.
I've downloaded the The MOT Testing guide and can't find any reference to number plate damage.
It's not the fact that I know should really replace the plate, it's the phaff in doing so with all the documentation.
Can anyone advise please?

Remember its not a tax though (there's even no VAT on it
)..it does pay wages and the overheads of running a typical business (rates, utilities etc) and the equipment costs (outlay/lease, maintanence and mandatory calibration checks).

Only for petrol engined vehicles- its not part of the MOT test for Diesels.
Ive just de-catted my diesel pickup ( 53 plate) for better torque and its perfectly MOT compliant . The garage chap did mention that its different for 2008 models onwards but think he was wrong on that and anyway my MOT man wouldnt be too concerned anyway
