ditto mate and good shout too
op this is well worth doing mate ,just done it myself after having my mates gtir stolen , was recovered when they burnt the clutch out on it , luckily it was slipping anyway so acted as an alarm !!!
only real damage was the fact they ripped the spoiler off and all badges to make it look more of a "blender"
yours looks in 1 piece to be fair so be thankful
feds were made up when we sent em a nice thankyou letter

Genuinely pleased to hear you got it back mate.
May be of little comfort but at least it is a well modded Scoob. Lets face it if any car can take hard revs and abuse without any internal damage it's a Scoob. Given the lack of exterior damage I doubt they had anything like the driving skill to ever drive it beyond its real world limits. Had it been some stock N/A hot hatch I'm sure the internals would have suffered a great deal more than yours might have. Still interesting to see if the insurance would cover engine removal/checking for peace of mind.
Either way at least its home in one piece, especially for the sentimental reasons. Maybe if S.Net members puts a petition together we can get the government to pass a new law. Something involving the recovered car, a high speed launch and a fishing wire tied round parts of their anatomy they'd like to keep? Could add some ticket sales to Santa Pod that's for sure!

Absolutely made up that your car has been recovered.
I hope it has suffered minimal damage though I suspect you'd want some serious work doing on it to make sure.
No doubt those responsible will get nothing like the sentence they deserve for all the hassle and upset they have caused.

But the judge will take into account they respected the engine only going up to 3,000 rpm and always filled with super unleaded. Also never slipped the clutch and an oil change so top thieves

It'll still cost a few pounds to replace the locks.
You have to change and cut two new keys with coding. That's £600 right there.
Plus the new locks and fitting along with the ignition barrel
There's over £1000 in just the lock side of things not to mention any damage that they did, as it was dent free
Personally I wouldn't want it back. Likely to be a ticking time bomb now. I'd get the bodyshop to get the quote so high it kills the car.

Very glad to hear she's been returned to you as your sentimental connection with the car.
Please update us all on what the engineers report says and let that be a warning to all of us not to leave keys in an accessible place, you never know who's watching or to what lengths these bar stewards will go to!

It's a car. I'd rather they take the keys than have to threaten my family for them.
While we get attached to cars there insured. End of the day a bit of metal that can be replaced. Shame the scum will prob get a quick telling off

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Yes I will definitely be extending massive thanks to the police as they worked very very hard to get this car back and had every copper in Bristol on the lookout.
As for the engine, I doubt the insurance will pay to have the engine stripped but I will have more than one specialist (I have a pretty good relationship with a couple) go over it with a fine tooth comb. Damage to internal components is not going to be obvious so we will have to see how that goes but the car has been pretty well setup for track and i doubt they could get it up to the speeds I have driven it round combe with slicks on, given they mostly drove it around a speed ramp filled council estate.
And like Cuprajake has said, I left the keys downstairs so I don't have to worry about some dodgy f**cker wandering in to one of my kids bedrooms looking for the keys. Those of you without kids never seem to understand this concept.
Lets just say I will be investing heavily in the future security of the car.

One of the best bits of kit is a Clifford blackjax.
It allows the thieves to get far enough away before the car dies. Then can't be started. And it's about £80 installed.

Really glad you got it back! and really hope its not too damaged!
This is one thing that does worry me with owning cars like this.... but i guess thats why we have good security and insurance!
someone tried to get in to my brothers house last week, the 5-oh said 100% they would have been after the keys for the car (he has a 2005 WRX)... scum the lot of them!

Bit OTT.
My garage has 4 inch post infront of garage doors. Garage door wireless alarm (not electric). Car keys locked in seperate location to other keys. Tracker fitted with auto cut off in 1 min if not disabled manually.
Hope this helps me look after mine.
You've got your car back. But Insurance to pay for the theift, no claims now lost and more to pay next year. Thats just not what you expected that night when you went to sleep.
Hope it works out well for you.

Little update on this for anyone that is interested.
I have pretty much got the car back how it was before, just needs a hub changing and geometry. Thanks to the kindness of others and doing all the work myself i kept the costs down but it was all money i don't have at the moment.
Anyway, the police have insufficient evidence for the burglary and the theft but they have charged 1 of the guys for driving off without paying for fuel twice as thats on cctv.
So if anyone wants to see justice being served(!)
he will be at north avon magistrates court on 1st July.

Glad you got it back fella can't imagain how you felt not just the theft but the fact those ***** have been in your pad if I was local I would go to that court just to see the look on that geezers face when he sees 50 burley scooby owners in the spectators box he would go out alone for a long time.
Actually he probably would as he's probably got an iq of -100
