dump valve question
The fact is the guy can purchase a chav trumpet and make his car run worse than if he had just left it alone.... no matter what it isn't going to make it perform any better so it is spending money for no gain at best.
You then compare that to not driving on the UK roads suggesting we should move to another country to avoid damage.... the two points are inverse arguments to each other and massively out of scale as a comparison anyway. I presume you don't have a degree in logic

Seriously, I went through a stage of running VTA dumpvalves and I never found one that made the car drive as well as on the original dump valve. Forge, HKS, Turbosmart - all made the car worse. So I admitted defeat and went back to the original. Once I understood why I would never be able to match the drivability of a recirculating valve, I felt like a complete tit.
Buy a noise making vta and fit it if you want. But it WILL effect your car in a negative way.
I've recently purchased a 2003 wagon that had a balieys dump valve already fitted, I'm not guna lie but I do enjoy the sound. However I've started to notice during a gear change it throws the revs up so I'm going back to standard. Can anyone recommend where to purchase a OEM one, had a google but no results?
That's irrelevant to the analogy. You are making the usual mistake of the stupid which is thinking I am criticising the point made in your analogy rather than its use as analogy to the original argument.

It's a question of choice: You choose to drive in a country which has increased possibility of negative effects on the cars you drive and he/we choose to add something to the engine which may have increased the possibility of negative effects on the cars we drive.
The difference is that corrosion is a proven destroyer of cars and there is no documented proof that DV/BOVs do any harm. Certain people are quick to jump on the "dump valves are disastrous for the car" bandwagon and choose to ignore that just by driving in the UK they can cause more damage. A lot of Subaru owners in France run DV/BOV and have no reported issues and most tuners over here say it makes naff all difference.
It is more than likely that I will cause less damage to the longevity of my car with a dump valve fitted driving in France than you will from driving on the UK roads. The main difference is that I don't go on about how you're all stupid for driving on the UK roads whereas you all go on and on and on about anyone with a DV/BOV is.
Surely being an avid F1 Fan you will already know this from going to the different countries where the F1 is held and experiencing the different quality of the roads - or are you just a "sofa" F1 Fan ?
Hopefully this has explained and clarified the analogy for you.
"...the two points are inverse arguments to each other...." forget a degree in logic there's not even common sense behind this statement
In the end, of course it is. But what sort of people would be we if we said nowt and his car went **** up?
Dodgy analogy aside, what part of France do you live in with no pot-holes? And French motorways are certainly salted and gritted. As for speed bumps, yep, they have them too.
Which assumes the OP can afford to do just that.......
Personally I think that you're all muppets for still living in the UK and am pretty certain that the winter salt on the roads, the pot-holes, sleeping policemen, etc. etc. do loads of damage to your cars - none of which I have over here but I don't spend my time telling you all not to drive anywhere as it "might" damage your car.
Which assumes the OP can afford to do just that.......
Incorrect ... I'll break it down into simple terms as obviously anything more elaborate is beyond you.

I will put it in simple terms for you.... Your analogy/argument comes down to the difference between fitting a VTA DV and not fitting one versus emigrating....

No it's illustrated you're an idiot though!
There is, you just don't understand it. I can't help that!

I appreciate that giving advice is part and parcel of what forums are about. What I don't like is the way that certain people leap all over "newbies" with genuine questions about DV/BOV etc. with nothing but insults and name calling.
ScoobyNet already has a bad reputation and these type of attacks on new members does nothing other than strengthen it. We were all "newbies" at one stage and I'm sure most of asked what we now consider to be "dumb" questions at some point.
DV/BOV are popular so people we always be asking questions about them, it would just be nice to have at least one thread on SN about them that isn't full of insults and **** taking and then maybe we can actually increase the number of active members on here.
The biggest problem forums have is that most people only write on them when they have issues. So if you read every post then it's more than likely that you'll never buy a car let alone drive one as it all reads as "doom and gloom" - in reality it's not true there's a much higher percentage of "happy" drivers without "issues" than there are on the forums - but it's well know that more people will moan about something than will say how good it is, sad but true.
To answer your question: I live just south of Le Mans near Tours in the Loire Valley. It is a listed world heritage site, the roads are superb over here, there's 3 villages in the area that have rumble strips (flat version of sleeping policemen) and there's no salt on the roads during winter (they use sand occasionally but as winters are not very long nor hard they don't usually bother).
@f1_fan:
I agree to disagree and happy to end there - off to enjoy my car on nice empty roads that are in good condition and laugh at the muppets like you stuck in wet, overcrowded, expensive, etc. etc. UK dreaming of a better life whilst watching how the other half live on Tv.

Welcome to the sensible Subaru Owners Club
Where dumpvalves ,stickers ,fake roof vents and dodgy things from Harkers are frowned on

But the more classics they ruin the better it is for the ones that are left
they are the most tasteful mod you can buy and if you dont like them please keep your comments to yourself
what makes the ladys more moist then a middle aged man in an impreza with a fake roof vent and full wrc graphics, then she spots his name on the rear window.........
many a marriage has started this way
