Easy to say, harder to prove ! Im sure some are as im sure many go pop. Little bit like the 2.5. Many are fine, some not so lucky but there normally modded or not looked after with the odd exception of course.

Let me help you as you obviously have difficulty. When NEW the 2L is a better engine than the later 2.5. I stated that the days of engineering is over . Did you read that? i guess not. I also said that the 2L is no longer new so there for would probably need re-building if big power was the goal so just like the 2.5. Big power is not everyone goal though. Some prefer the low down torque as opposed to the revvy 2L. Its horses for courses mate .

well you have more guages than the space shuttle so im sure you will know if you had a problem developing. Most standard RB's have proven to be fine. I know of 2 with HG problems. One car was standard not sure about the other. I think the issue is with the head bolts stretching under high boost. Quality studs replace them and cure the problem.

I guess they're all prone to the problem in the same way an awful lot of engines have commonly-seen and well-known faults. I'm waiting for the turbo to go on our diesel Fiesta...
Ultimately and importantly, I think the 2.5 is a great engine when it has been built properly be it a fully forged set of internals and rebuild or tighter studs. It would seem many owners would agree but it's a shame Subaru and its importers didn't move to act on this problem when they must have known about it.

Joking aside, I know of a 100k Hawk STi PPP without a problem, and a problem-free Spec D that was sold on here with like 120k or so.

My car just diagnosed with ringland problem after mapping by Steve Simpson revealed excess detonation, probably caused by oil contamination.
