As a slight aside I give to a couple of tiger charities and was a few years ago talking to a woman who was a big donater to one of the charities for helping with famine etc. I was talking to her about how to judge which charities are the best and which seem to spend rather too much on plush offices etc. and saying that for many you can get copies of their accounts if you dig deep enough and that can help and so on.

Towards the end of the conversation she asked me why on earth would I donate to charities helping animals over those helping humans and I, half tongue in cheek, replied that if I helped save starving kids then they might grow up into the sort of people who would kill the tigers I love so much..... she went ballisitc

Trouble is I really would rather help tigers than humans... I guess that makes me a bad person. Oh well! I had better hope God is a tiger lover

No we don't, humans are by and large w4nkers. We only need to save the tigers becuase humans have hunted them to the point of extinction.

 

Do you think its the African children that are asking for your help ?
Parents of those African children do not have children so they can ask for your help in raising them.

Should you really be pissed at Africans that those European NPO's tell you that they need help?
And more importantly, do they really need your help ?

 

The biggest thing we in the west could do is get rid of CAP.
We appear to be happy to sacrifice millions of Africans, to keep the French farmers happy.

Africa is a big problem, war, violence, flood, famine, drought and religion, the latter being the biggest problem, they are 1000 years behind the rest of the world, ruled by greedy warlords who take whatever they can get and spend it on Mercedes, gold guns and palaces.

basically most of it is a **** place to populate, rape is commonplace and everything is so macho, so many daft ideas about what makes a man, the Catholic church still holds sway with its outdated ideas on birth control, hence the breeding, death and aids.

There are some decent bits but basically its a ****hole.

I agree absolutely with what you are saying. To deem it acceptable to let kids die is appalling.

Perhaps the OP and others would like to travel to Africa with clubs and they could play "Club the baby Seal" with kids lying in the dirt.

There is so much Western technology and money that could solve so many of these problems if people stopped being so f,ucking selfish and greedy.

As a mother of two, I too find this idea repugnant.

About charity adverts, they are not like butt-kicking IR adverts demanding the due tax. Giving is a voluntary activity. No one puts a gun to anyone's head to give anything to any one/any charity. People need not give if they don't want to. frikking Simplz.

I do agree that Third World should be practising more birth-control to reduce population burden and it's knock-on effect that the whole world has to share; one way or another.

When Bob gives up all his wealth and throws it at Africa and lives in a box on the street then I will give a little something. Same goes for bono. Why did they move their financials to Luxembourg? Oh yeah a tax dodge. Bet none of that saved money went to africa

 

It's true .... all these wealthy pop singers and/or actors stood in their vast mansions telling US to give our money.

They could use their accountants to save some tax and pay all of that to Africa and the babies.

Population of Ethiopia at the time of the first Live aid. 43 million. Population today 91 million. Not to mention the Countries with the top 10 highest birth rates in the world are all in Africa. Until you address this issue, all you are doing by blindly donating aid is exacerbating the problem.

 

Sorry, don't have any kids so I'd still rather save the tigers.
