Can't believe the amount of coverage this utter BS is getting.

Why even acknowledge it!?

Mind you, today's rain seems a bit apocalyptic...

Default Earth's fate

It seems we'll perish long before the supernova, cheery stuff from Wiki:

Earth's ultimate fate is precarious. As a red giant, the Sun will have a maximum radius beyond the Earth's current orbit, 1 AU (1.5×1011 m), 250 times the present radius of the Sun. However, by the time it is an asymptotic giant branch star, the Sun will have lost roughly 30% of its present mass due to a stellar wind, so the orbits of the planets will move outward. If it were only for this, Earth would probably be spared, but new research suggests that Earth will be swallowed by the Sun owing to tidal interactions. Even if Earth should escape incineration in the Sun, still all its water will be boiled away and most of its atmosphere will escape into space. Even during its current life in the main sequence, the Sun is gradually becoming more luminous (about 10% every 1 billion years), and its surface temperature is slowly rising. The Sun used to be fainter in its early past; which is possibly the reason life on Earth has only existed for two to three billion years. The increase in solar temperatures is such that in about another billion years the surface of the Earth will likely become too hot for liquid water to exist, ending all terrestrial life.

TX.

Wouldn't worry too much about it - the Mayan's didn't manage to predict their own demise, so whay pay any credence to their prediction of our demise.

Even our calendar runs out every year on the 31st Dec and our world doesn't end.

Saying that, some hangovers I've had on New Year's Day, I sometimes wish it had.

the solar mass of our sun means it wont go supernovae,

itll explosivley shed a lot of its matter before settling and dying as a red giant IIRC.

needless to say this will be long after any current life form could exist as we know it now.

End of the world is usually December 24th Morrisons Greenock That's what it looks like anyway. Hubby and Wifey trolley each loaded with 10 loafs all the veg to feed 40 people 20 pints of milk running grabbing anything on the shelves that's getting low. Where do these people come from do they only shop once a year? The shop is only shut 2 days FFS what's that all about.

Well, the Mayans shouldn't worry if they do get it wrong - after all, it's not the end of the world....

The Sun will end it's days as a White Dwarf. After it's red giant stage when it has shed all of it's outer layers. The White Dwarf stage of the Sun's life will last trillions of years.
