I have to agree with this one, the numbers would be low and by the time someone has killed with a knife then it is easier to apprehend the killer.

Feel so sorry for the little children and their families, it's fecking shocking, what crazy ***** they have living there.

America is a basket case, as I have said on numerous occasions

And I say that with my beautiful 13 year old son son, Orlando, who is on a choral tour of the western coast Of America

Britain has its problems, but i'd hate to think what it would be like if we had gun laws like the states.
EastEnders would probably be the first soap to have them,a few well hard gangsters on that soap.
And we've already got enough idiots on the streets..

It's a disrace that in the 21st century, a counrty like America and it's super power nation status still allows guns to be freely bought by a regular guy off the street, from a store that trades " on the street " like a supermarket....

Just popping to the supermarket for some bacon & eggs, while i'm there i'll pick up a new Baretta, a Glock and treat myself to an M16, and a couple of Grenades.................that country is seriously f***ed up!!

It's about time it was banned....for good......I don't care wether it's the US culture or not...it's time for them to change their attitude towards it's gun culture.

How many more times do poor innocent children, teenagers & general public have to be killed before a nation wide ban is enforced in America..

When you have children yourself news like this really hits you, I can't imagine what the parents are going through but I feel for them

Banning is pointless now , shutting the gate after the horse has bolted comes to mind

There's too many guns in circulation already so banning would make no difference

Such a tradegy.

This is buzzing around the web. No idea about the source of the information but it's startling when you see the numbers like that.

I think it's only a matter of time before there is stricter gun control in the US. The way people are living there is changing in a way that means more people will commit things like this and the political stance of the general population will shift to be against gun ownership.

I reckon we only hear the half of it, suspect there are shootings every Friday night in many towns, women have handbag guns the size of a Spudgun, the keep guns in their cars, mix it in with mental instability, alcohol, arguments and rather than just having a hangover the following day you are on a murder charge.

My brother in law used to have handguns before the ban, weird to turn up and he is cleanign a Desert Eagle, Uzi and luger on the kitchen table, he can be pretty grumpy, sort of felt sorry he lost a hobby but he got over it, dont think any of those parents in Dunblane or any of the subsequent massacres ever got over it.

I can see how it happens, these nutters tend to be shunned and they decide to make a grand gesture, I can see how they get like that, dont think it is society or specific to the US, I just think human nature tends to mean some people are cruel to others as a Kind of sport, I see it at work there are a couple of Hipsters who think they are so cool and they rip the **** out of a couple of the developers because they dont have an Iphone or wear head to toe Superdry, thing is they dont give the object of their derison a chance, they just see cords, tank tops and whatever and assume bell end, actually that guy is way more interesting, more intelligent and has a very full and interesting life.

Angry

So very sad.

It's decades too late to ban guns. At best one would hope for a social change where it is considered wrong to keep guns, a bit like drink driving - almost acceptable 30 years ago but now frowned on by 95% of the population.

But IMHO a root cause is a downward spiral of normality as society hurtles forward. Social pressures become intolerable for some and kids can watch videos and play PC games where the winner shoots as many baddies as possible. Is it any wonder that this is re-enacted in real life by those close to the edge?

Putting it into perspective one should remember that this sort of thing happens on an almost daily basis in Syria where parents love their kids just as much.

I don't think there is an answer and such tragic incidents will be repeated time and again.

Their god given right to defend themselves (long after the enemy has disappeared ), now they've only each other to hit

Let em get on with it, I predict an upturn as they start to feel the pinch

The obvious argument is to have more guns not less

If the teachers were packing weapons, and you had a machine gun nest in a watchtower, maybe the perps would think twice

Or maybe not

For Gods sake, wake up America! Your stupid gun laws are an archaic left over from the wild west.
Guns were invented for one purpose - to kill or maim, end of story. The "Right to bear arms" is a stupid and nieve concept which has no place in a society rife with fools and idiots. How many more of these all too common atrocities will it take for a president to show he has some ***** and formulate stringent gun laws?

Some inbred NRA ars#wipe with a grubby baseball cap and body warmer actually suggested that these incidents wouldn't occur if people were allowed to carry guns in shopping centres and movie, theatres !!!.
His solution therefore is more guns !!!!.
What sort of fetid cretin do you have to be to actually believe this, presumably if all the kids in the school had been armed then this would'nt have happened job sorted .

All Obama will do is make a speech written by someone else, read off an autocue and pretend to cry while doing it.

Yeah in order to summon up those 'pretend' tears all he had to do was think of the terror of those kids and the suffering of their parents.

what is wrong with people, have we really become so cynical?

Can't believe people are calling Obama over this. He may be a lot of things, but I found his speech very honest yesterday.

Good luck to him trying to reform the gun laws, I doubt he will get very far! That said the fact these sort of things keep happening is not down solely to the gun laws, what drives people to do these things is also worth looking at! Is it something to do with American society?

They don't have these incidents in Canada or Switzerland, and they both have heavily armed civilian populations
Pretty much on the nose.
The problem is within a society that won't accept that anybody can be "different". I understand it's human nature to be like that as "survival of the fittest" means you are only going to trust and congregate with those who you feel are going to best help further your own self interest.
If you don't believe me, see how some people who own Subarus go on about people who own Mitsubishis and vice versa! If it's all the way down at that level how the hell are we going to treat people of a different colour, race, creed, religion, political background or outlook on life?
I understand why people find it tough to relate to someone whose brain is wired differently, as that's all we're talking about. If you take a look in the press today, you'll find it in action. "Nerd, Wierdo, Nutter, Oddball, Loner, Geek"
What are we going to do, round up anybody who doesn't fit the Aryan mould and kill them all before they kill us? Or maybe we could find out what their problems are, and lead them away from this kind of action.

Let's face it, they are fvcked

I just laugh when I heard a parent say "I thought Newtown was the safest place in America"

They are living in a fantasy world, when you can buy an assault rifle in the local supermarket capable of firing 60 rouns a min

And the comparison with canada and Switzerland is laughable, a better comparison would be sierra leone
