My take as a 5 owner?
It's perfectly decent but the competition are yelling ahead.
If you want a smallish, slim phone that's cross compatible with other Apple kit, get one. Otherwise look elsewhere.

I had an iPhone 4 8gb and went to an iPhone 4S 16gb.
I think there's very little difference in them, I only swapped as I needed more storage otherwise I would keep the 4.
I suppose the only thing is that the 4s will last longer in terms of software updates, depends how much you value it. Siri is a waste of time IMO.

I've just got an Iphone 4S on contract. Had the first Galaxy sSfor over 2 years and to be honest at the moment I wish I'd gone for the Galaxy S2 or S3.
IOS is soooo basic compared to Android!
