Sounds to me like having an addled brain is a prerequisite to being a substance abuse worker.
Perhaps in no small way, caused by the previous heavy abuse of said substances?

 

I think alcohol over here is like guns in the US, ****ed up, dangerous relationship for a lot of the population, I am trying to get across to mine the dangers inherant in alcohol, told them about the lad in the pub we heard about that had his 18th and got a pint of "Top Shelf", basically mixed spirits, went home to bed and didnt wake up, how tragic.

It is the daft attitude, when people say "Are you going out for a pint" and they reply "Hat to be done", no it doesnt, and that thing where people giggle like they are doing somethign a bit naughty, reality is that a lot of people are in a tailspin with booze, I can easily end up drinking every night but I have realised it make me feel crap, not just a hangover but health wise, people eat ****e, drink and smoke too much then go to the doctor because they feel crap and lethargic, they dont like to admit that it does have an effect.

Booze should be a treat, occasionally and in moderation, trouble is, it is so compelling, and easy, reliable gratification, we indoctorate the youth into it, they see us drinking and cant wait to start, we can buy it anywhere, in vast quantities, fairly cheaply, we contrive every social occasion around it and how we will get back from it, how many argumenbts about who will drive, we dont want to go out unless we can get ****faced.

Raising the minimum price is taking the easy option by hammering the working man yet again whilist not even looking at a solution to the overall problem.

its quite frankly a proposterous plan, which at the heart seems more focused on generating income to fill the hole caused by governments., also if the bar at house of commons is a subsidised affair - get that to fck right away!! self rightous pr*cks!!

i agree with regard to healthcare and the burden drink causes at a and e wards every weekend. no doubt any sensible person couldve had a drink at home, minding there own buisness and subsequently fall or injure themselves should be entitled to free care, but if your a regular down there at weekends, comatose violent or a nuisance then start charging - even just a fixed fee. say maybe £50 per visit, after a 2 strike and out set up.

a person waking up in a ward and being hit with a £50 fine after umpteen visits to a nad e may, just may start to consider it when out and about drinking. and try avoid trouble a bit more - or atleast itll be in the back of there mind.

i know the same could be argued for people who eat sh*t, dont look after themselves ect, but atleast there generally not a public nuisance, and rarely a pressure at a and e services at nights/weekends.

stress the 2 strikes and out attitude, for repeat offenders

back to minimum pricing, how deluded are these tw*ts in thinking it will be in anyway effective - a £5 unit price yes, you just outprice the section of the market - with obviously penalising the majority, but its the only way a pricing stratagy would succeed in what the government work. what planet are these zoomers from!

The function of the government is not to solve problems.
It is to raise revenue, in order to spend it.
Everything else is mere window dressing IMHO.
