Compressor surge can cause damage depending on what turbo you have

Yes, and yes.

Mine runs a recirculating d/v as fitted to cars 97-98 on a Hybrid GT2 FMIC.
It fits to a short pipe off the main cold pipe leading to the inlet/throttle.

Although I will admit to having changed it for a Forge one years ago, on the advice of Bob Rawle, it's still recirculating type as they have no chance of messing with the fuelling.

I COULD have gone VTA three years ago when the engine was rebuilt, as I run MAF-less, but was advised not to by none other than Harvey himself.

I would never trust a standard DV at that level. Mine was bleeding boost back into the inlet tract at 1.6 bar, running 380hp when it should have been producing another 40hp. There's to much blind faith in the standard item, ok at lower levels but much better to invest in a good aftermarket re-circulating dv such as a Turbosmart or Forge when running higher boost levels.

Is this still going (again)?

As somoeone once said in a thread on here if you want a noisy VTA DV then save yourself the money and time by simply opening the window and every time you change gear shout 'Look at me, I'm a c**t"

My dump valve added an estimated 40bhp when fitted!

Your choice.

Your turbo may be able to take it, but it's not kind to the turbo. Always bear in mind that a rally car engine is removed, stripped and rebuilt after every rally...
