Tossco again......
Same lady in Morrisons asked me for ID twice within 3 days ( i was on my own)... I'm 38.!!
surely if an employee can't distinguish a humans age of that between of 18/21 and 38 they should have a age identity parade as some sort of training program.

If the 16 year old grandson turns up and has a drink so what. This isn't illegal. If their 5 year old turns up and has a drink this is not illegal either.
I dont understand the Tesco policy. So what if the adult is buying with the intent of sharing it at home with an under 18 year old? That is the decision of the adult. Who are Tescos to say what you can and can't do when the law has already given that discretion to the adult?

It's when the minor is unsupervised that has the retailers worried. I have a personal licence from my days in the pub trade, which makes myself liable for even bigger fines, up to £20,000 and prison time if I was to repeatedly serve/supply a minor. I think I'd rather avoid that.
When the group of minors swigging from a 3 litre bottle of cider get stopped by the local beat bobby or council licencing officer, they will be asking where it came from. If they point at Tesco, then Tesco are in the firing line.
If Tesco are pointed out, then the licencing officer can demand to see all staff training records, the premises licence, the authorising (manager/assistant manager etc) licences, copy of the documents of the manager authorising each member of staff to serve alcohol under his licence, and then demand that refresher training is carried out by all staff within a certain amount of time, say 28 days. Tesco will very much want to avoid having to re-train all of there staff as that's extra cost to themselves. And then there are the fines.
In my opinion, the legislation was poorly written and appeared to be more aimed at deterring the corner shop from selling alcohol to minors in order to combat minors binging on cider and alcopops, rather than the large chains.
The government of the time also did not do a good job of educating the public. Most people still think it is illegal to serve alcohol to an on-duty police officer. It's perfectly legal since the licencing act was last updated, but not many people know that.
Without wanting it to sound like I'm having a pop at the cashiers, I know they aren't the best paid, plus the job isn't exactly exciting, so they probably don't pay much attention to regular customers and instead put their energy into making sure they don't end up with an £80 fine which they pay out of their own wages.
I once got refused service at a shop in the states - despite having our photo driving licenses on us (we were over 30 at the time)
We put it down to the clearly not very bright cashier not being able to cope with dates in the DD-MM-YYYY format.

Their customer service is THE worst I have EVER experienced in this country.
1. They lost my cheque I left as a deposit on some glasses I hired.
They COULD NOT understand why I was upset.
The cheque was posted to me three months later, crumpled up, not even a "with compliments" slip.
2. Their filling station regularly refuses cards. It's not "their" fault, customers are sent outside to use the cash dispenser.
If it happens, you are treated brusquely and no apology is given, it's YOUR fault, or YOUR bank's. Other cvustomers look at you as if you are trying to cheat Tesco.
3. When they have no Millenium, they can't ever say when it's due, and are rude and brusque. They again refuse to accept responsibility.
4. Locally, their parking is a mess: you can get in, but getting out is often impossible, it is possible to be stuck in a slot for half an hour, then in the parking area for a further hour. At this time of year, it's common......
Badly designed, but hey, it's not their fault, they won't do anything about it, but blame the local council and the estate owners.
And when it's gridlocked, they refuse to acknowledge the fact and won't even attempt to do anything.
I HATE TESCO!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's weird how pationate people are getting over a supermarket. I went to the Skipton Tesco the other day for the first time and it was better than the Keighley Sainsburys and miles ahead of their Asda and Morissons...oh dear what am I saying?
I use my local Co-Op now.
I may pay a bit more than going to the nearest supermarket on the far side of town but,
I don't have to drive far.
I don't worry about my car getting damaged or face the racers in their loud hatchback cars showing off. (Real posers drive slowly to get noticed
)
I don't have to fight the zombies attached to the trollies.
There are no long lost friends talking to each other in front of the shelf where I want to get my item from, these social gatherings can occur in the most inconvenient places.
I don't have to join a long checkout queue, if there is more than 3 people in a queue then another staff member opens another till.
I am not pointed to an impersonal self-serve till by a 'helper'.
I am greeted warmly by all staff throughout the shop.
I only have a short walk to my car and a short drive home.
I arrive home relaxed within half-an hour of leaving my house.
I receive a large amount of money twice a year into my bank account for shopping there and using my member's card.
Other Co-Ops might not be like mine, but I enjoy the shopping experience in my local one.
