How far do you commute?
76miles a day either by car or train, plus the 5 miles and back to the station.
That is just the office, if I am travelling to sites then factor in another 40 miles.
On a good day it takes about an hour and half. Some days it has taken 3 hours
Bring back the Olympic lanes, they were great

1.7 miles for me to the local smog, sorry steelworks
Sometimes walk, mainly bike and when it's cold or pi$$ing down, the Scoob gets a run out - the long way
Being a physical job, on shifts, sometimes the sloth in me just cries to drive so I can have a soak in the bath quicker LOL.

I do about 45 miles each way, down the last part of M40 and around the north western corner of M25. The time depends hugely one when I do it - usually leave home at 6.30am which gets me in by 7.15am at the latest, but if I left it to 7.30pm could easily take 90 minutes most days.
I've been doing this since 1989, but for the last few years I've only been doing it for three days a week maximum. I was using a Scooby for while (in the late 90s when you the fuel cost less than 10p a mile), but nowadays I have a diesel Golf for the commute and the Scooby only gets used at weekends.

10 miles one way
18 -23 minutes depending on traffic
Don't start to 10am so miss the busy period and finish after 8pm so it's a very fast drive Back in the Scoobies
2 miles through town and 8 miles of fast A roads and twisties
Never been in a service bus and railway station is 45minute walk and would not like to cycle along a fast road

I have looked into the option of taking the train. One thing I couldn't find out though - Do you have to pay up front for your season ticket, or can you pay interest free or split the cost etc etc?
If weekly/monthly payments options exist then it would be great. I live around 300 yards from Stoke on Trent station, and work is around 1.5 miles from a station so would need transport at this end.
What do you reckon to driving to work on Monday morning, but Monday evening driving to the station and then continue using the train until Friday morning (use car for station>work and work>station) Then use the car to go home on Friday night
Sounds like a bit of a pain, but it's just hit me, and I reckon it's the solution

At only 1.5m from the station I really would just get a folding bike - it'll take you 5 minutes on a bike, if that. No need to worry about parking a car overnight at a station then.
Now - just 25 metres from my bedroom to my office upstairs.
Longest Distance - about 490 miles out on Monday, back on Friday. House to Edinburgh Airport, fly to Heathrow, Tube to Paddington (I think), train to Farnborough. About 4.5hrs in total door-to-door. Did that for a year. Flying was cheaper and quicker than the train and BA coffee on the morning flights was the best.
Longest Period - 45 miles each way for several years. House to Edinburgh city centre.

When I worked in Scotland I used to travel, each morning, from Helensburgh to Livingstone and then back to Glasgow to my office.
Now, down in sunny Surrey, 3 miles, takes about 5 mins (I should cycle really!!)

1 mile cycle, takes all of 5 minutes. Very pleasant change from the 1-hour B-road commute I had for years before that, until I moved. The price of petrol would be crippling me by now ('96 turbo wagon used to be the daily driver).
Firstly, congrats on getting out of Burton
12 and a bit miles for me - 20 ish mins if I drive and a pb of 37 mins when cycling (usually somewhere around 40)
Although I do take alternate longer routes in and home if I feel like it:

15 minutes on a Vespa to the local station, 45 minutes on the train to London and another 15 minutes the other end on another scooter I keep up in town.
Have started to take the car to the station a couple of days a week as I miss driving... used to do around 120 miles a day round trip leaving at 6am - I miss driving that route as all my fuel was on expenses and there were some cracking roads en route!
Going by rail is definitely less stress though.

Approx 5000 miles one way
Aberdeen to Frankfurt to Riyadh (Saudi) to Tabouk (overnight stay) and then a 2hr drive to a place called Duba and then a 1 1/2hr boat ride to the rig. If I do it in one go it is around 37hrs
Then I stay here a month and do it all in reverse to get home. Glad I don't pay the fuel bill though

40 mile round trip daily, most of it is on the motorway so typically less than half and hour door to door.
Was doing 80 miles a day for a while when I had a Scoob, twice weekly stops at the petrol station
