Please dont buy a gold one! This colour should be reserved for Scooby wheels only, and even then it splits the field

I am not talking about driven speakers,

I am talking about speakers passively moving with the sound field generated by my stereo pair.

Only way round that is to remove them from the room. and I cannot do that.

i would never listen to a stereo source with more thasn two speakers, except in a car, where I know imaging is futile!]

naim audio brings out the audiophle in you.

and you!

they''''re great!

Now I can understand the desire to have pure 2 channel for stereo - but to worry about speakers that are off causing problems ?!?. Surely other things come into play long long before that would be a factor - like the furnishings in the room, glass vibrating, the fact that 99% of peoples speaker placement is compromised by the size/shaoe of the room.

I enjoy my mid range home cinema but sometimes have to wonder at the "audiophiles" obsession with small detail

Adam,
RE Naim Audio, I'm sure that you are aware that they now sell an AV processor and 3 channel amp for exactly what you want to do. However they are the usual Naim-esque price i.e. about 2k for the AV2 processor and 1.5k for the NAP175 three channel amp. I believe they also have a centre speaker on the way.

It seems that the old rule of only two speakers in the room no longer applies now Linn and Naim have decided Home Cinema is OK!!

Rob with LOTS of Naim amps!!

Rob,

I was aware of that, having received the literature through the post, but the new stuff is based on the new range and doesnt look like it is geared for the higher end or bigger box componentry as I like to call it. So I dont consider this an admission of okness! just a get with the market we need to make some money!

I did think about it, but I am lucky enough that the L shape room my system currently resides in, has a naim audio hifi in one arm and an entirely separate cinema system in the other, meanign that the naim audio components dont go anywhere near ghastly (in honour of prince phillip) home cinema equipment. If anything the naim would be out of place, and in terms of quality the av32r would be overkill.

keep it quiet, but there ws a brief period where I was going to ditch the active naim fron end, and have a full compliment of av32r complete with bryston monoblocks.

thankfully i went home and looked at my green lights, which swiftly changed my mind, (even though the cleaner had switched them off that day ).

I'm sure that Linn and Naim have decided that Home Cinema is OK because they finally realised they were losing out on a whole load of sales opportunities and snobbery would lose them more money.

Saving for the Linn Classic. Yum.

thanks for all your help guys.

Just had a touch of luck.

went into a hifi shop on sat and they ahd an ex dem denon avc a10se ex dem for £900.

for the first time in my life I ummed and ahhhed and decided to walk away, strangely I didnt offer him £750 which I would ahve agreed to on the spot had he said yes.

Anyway, on the opffchance today I checked an old favourite bookmarked website of an av forum similar to this, and saw that an hour earlier some guy had posted a classified of one of these for sale for £500 and it was the same age. You know that being second hand never affects these thinsg so I posted saying I would take it subject to it meeting condition etc.

which apparently it does.

I just sneaked in, and 1 minute later someone else posted saying they would take it.

looks like he was typing at the same time as me.

Anyway, guy has contacted me and its going ahead.

Really pleased! and no this wont be a fill in. Going to keep it as a permanent fixture.

Marantz SR5200 is What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision's current rave - only £400 and blew away more expensive competition - not in Gold tho'

(but you could buy a can of Gold crackle paint with the £600 you save and have enough for TSL spoiler....)
