Spot-on! The lighting of the cauldron was a triumph; tasteful and moving. Well done to everyone involved. Inspiring!

How can there still be haters after that !

Hats off to the Queen that was genius, how many people said is that her before she turned round.

The cauldron was out of this world.

The Artic were quality and those bikes, some amazing moments.

So many positives

Apart from when we saw Ali it's tragic seeing him like that when you remember him in his pomp. Not sure if it was an ask too much for him, I dont think he knew what was going on, very sad to see.

the highlights for me were, the Jams "going underground" - should really have been "eton rifles"

and the James Bond theme, together with Mr Bean

it just gave the impression that we can laught at ourselves, one of our greatest traits - as well as being the foundation of the modern industrial/digital societies

much to celebrate being British

Yeah it was very good and nice to see some lighthearted moments. 007 was a terrific touch.

I thought a transport theme might have showed off British achievements and make a good spectacle. A Steam Train. Penny Farthing. Modern bikes. Some classic old cars like Old No 1 (Bentley 3.5 turbo). Cooper in Monte Carlo trim. London Taxis, Double Deckers. Concorde (the Harrier ) and may be a speedboat or two.

Got bored with the parade but it had to be done although I think they should jog around the track to make it quicker, they are athletes after all.

Rings above the stadium were stunning.

UK running US would have been a nice historical theme just to remind people that we used to be in charge!!

Good luck to all the competitors, hope there are not too many tears.

It did make you realise that there is a lot for us to be proud about as a country. Thought the whole thing was really good EXCEPT for McCartney. He just ruined the end for me, as with the jubilee.

Great ceremony imho. I was sceptical but thought the whole event was an excellent spectacle with a great end. Well done to all those involved. Now bring on the sport!

The cute Queen was picking her fingers during the British parade. I wonder what she was thinking. Perhaps by then, she wanted to get it over and done with, as it was well past her bed time.

The cauldron was a fantastic piece of sculpture! Hats off to Heatherwick.

The Arctic Monkeys' song is still playing inside my head. These Sheffield nippers have made Britain very proud indeed with their music.

Ali didn't even look like Ali. I was very inspired by him in my childhood years. In my teenage years, I had his poster with EVERLAST on his kit in my room. I too think that he had no notion of the ceremonial activities around him. He was just there, as a shell of his former self. Although is was very sad to see him in this way, his days of glory will never be forgotten. Top sportsman.

Fireworks and stadium lighting was magical!

Altogether a brilliant effort by Boyle for depicting the cultural landscape of Britain. The industrial revolution scene was breathtaking! Britain should be very proud of this event.

Agreed, ERA! Bring on the sport now.

Although I still don't care much for the corporate greed and the over zealous protectionism element within the Olympics, the opening ceremony really was an overwhelming success. The Arctic Monkeys were brilliant much better than Macca! Danny Boyle really pulled it off and it was a humbling to see everyone carrying their flags with such pride and joy. As was the fact that millions the world over were watching this small nation in the northern hemisphere.
Ali is indeed a very ill man, it saddens me to say I don't think he's going to be with us much longer.

opening ceremonies just seem soo long and drawn out, saying that there were parts i liked very much, seemed impressive, and others where boredom did set in tbh. but overall i think its been fairly well received.

looking forward to some of the events tbh - just hate, hate, hate the amount of commercialism that goes with it. surley it could be reigned in a bit. still ill happilty watch the parts im interested in. hope to see some great performances

A brilliant show, well done London.

Ashamed at four Welsh football plyers refusing to sing the National anthem though. Disgraceful.
