new shape and uk spec snobbery against old shape/imports

Scooby Senior
Personally I don't think any Impreza's good looking, they've alway's been ugly. But then I didn't buy my 98 or 01 for the way they look, I'm on the inside. One of the things I love about the 01 is the interior build quality, the old model was hanging in bits after a couple of months.
As for waving, I don't.

Waving, flashing, hooting your horn is all fine and dandy in my books from any Subaru, even a 4wd Justy (and thats the absolute limit).
There are now 4 WRC Blue MY01 WRXs in Berkshire i know of and i am sure if anyone spots us and does any of the above mentioned actions, you will be greeted with like back.
But then I wave at anything, even chicken nuggets. Insane in the membrane me.........

waved at an old lady in an "old" scobby today, she didn't wave back- must be all old scobbys are driven my Miss Daisy wannabes with no idea about the "big happy familiy" we all are. or would that assumptive conclusion based on a single encounter make me a narrow minded fool?? i wonder?
tiggs
ps my wr blue my01 with P1 colour wheels, and some extra bits of body kit looks good- not stunning (i dont want to sh4g it or hang it my livingroom wall though) it is also quick and im only running it in! when its had the ppp it will be quicker still. quick as sti, old wrx, etc, etc- dont know, dont care- i didnt by one of those.
pps. if anyone wants to check my spelling feel free- i'm to busy driving my car waving at everyone.

Well as a Scooby-Newby, as I've only been part of the Club for about now, this is the first thread that I find myself forced to answer to. I don't understand all the bad attitude being aired here. If you're any sort of enthusiast these days I wouldn't have thought it would take too long to realise that acknowledging other owners is part of being a Scooby owner (especially as one of the first things you would do is find websites like this one). I enjoy waving at others, although I have to admit I feel a bit cheezy doing it at times, especially if there's no response.
So new or old shape, import or UK, I am hopefully one of the breed of new drivers that are like the old.
So if you see me in the Kingston area give us a wave or a flash and I'll return the compliment (unless I'm playing with my **** of course).

This is a shame... Lots of emotion.
I just bought MY01. I have had it 3 weeks now. I do not feel as though I have had my trousers pulled down.
I do feel that I have got value for money. I did consider other cars within the price range of the MY01. But no car could compare to it in this price range.
I also considered an import, but I couldn't be arsed fighting with insurance companies ( as soon as you say the word import, they start making the sign of the cross), Crawling the country for SUL, and subaru dealers who spit at you as soon as you drive on the forecaught. I cant be bothered with all that.
I chose the MY01 because overall it seems a better car. Yes the looks are still growing in me , but I LOVE driving it. I do lot of motorway driving therefore the MY01 is better built for that. I still love the old one.
The key thing here is. As long as you feel you are getting value for money, and it what you want... Who gives a **** what the other bloke is driving.
Oh just one point.... I have seen a white haired 60 year lady driving a scooby "classic" wagon. Does that mean that older people prefer the old shape than the new one.
Lets get a perspective on this guys. Enjoy YOUR choice in car .. what ever the hell it is. As for waving fellow drivers. I have had cossie drivers wavy me and me wave back. Who gives a ****... We are all performance car drivers. Chill out... A

only person im having a go at is you. I told you my reasons for writing the original thread and if you want to make more of it thats up to you. So you disagree with what i say about uk impreza owners paying over six and a half thousand more than Japanese owners and losing 32 bhp at the same time for the same 'wrx' model???
Think you better get your priorities right and grow some *****. still no email ad i see so i can assume you dont want any details, hope to see you around jza

Scoobynutta - attitude or wot! Calm down mate we're all in the same scooby clan here and all bruva's. Everyone make's their own choices new/secondhand/uk/euro/jap import. pro's and cons for all. Have a pop at Evo drivers or summat.
As for waving, I'm a new thirtysomething scooby owner with a silver MY01 WRX and I'm waving like the clappers to all scooby owners and only had one wave back so far. Haven't seen any other WRX's on the road yet so we're still a rare beast. Must be the Corolla mistaken identity thing.

"I have seen several new shape imprezas over the past couple of weeks and am not impressed by the drivers attitude."
then later on, you rant about how your cars much better value etc and slag everyone off!
"I told you my reasons for writing the original thread and if you want to make more of it thats up to you" WHAT?????
GET A LIFE MATE - DO YOU HONESTLY NOT SEE THE IRONY OF YOUR COMMENTS? YOU MOAN ABOUT PEOPLE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING YOU AND THEN A FEW THREADS LATER ARE SLAGGING PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW OFF BECAUSE THEY HAVE MADE A CHOICE TO BUY SOMETHING YOU DONT LIKE! I FOR ONE DONT CARE IF YOU THINK YOUR CARS BETTER - GREAT FOR YOU!!! THEY EACH HAVE THERE MERITS!! BUT YOU STARTED OFF BY TELLING ME AND SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS THAT YOU DONT LIKE OUR ATTITUDES WHEN YOUVE GOT A CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER THE SIZE OF YOUR BLEEDIN EGO!!
And now you want my email address? Why the hell do you think id wanna waist any more time conversing with a retard!
YOU REALLY ARE A CHUMP MATE. Did you have a turbo'd Nova before and drive round in a baseball cap with your stereo on full blast by any chance? Bit of a Max Power man who loves to slag of "WRX boys" cause you know best????? Bet you can tell all your mates about it down the pub!! Did you have any bed wetting experiences as a young boy? Find it difficult to make friends as a kid? Mmmmmm...
By the way, find me a Jap import WRX (with your precious 32bhp increase) for £14k and i'll but it and give you the £6k difference.
But then you wont, will you. Cause they dont exist do they!! Oh, and obviously because your full of ****!!! BLEEDIN HYPOCRITE. Scooby owners wave at each other as a sign of unity and respect. Maybe you should think about that some time and wonder if your the reason you dont get waves back.
You will buy a mk2 car one day - like i say. And then you'll be really sad like the rest of us!! AHHHH!!!! And i hope im there to tell you how ugly it looks!!!

Calm down man, don't get so over excited. I use to be a lot like you bite at the slightest but since the heart attack I have learn't to calm down.
About a 18 months ago I went with some Bristol lads to North Wales for a run with the Midlands lads.We were all parked up down a lane chatting about this and that when a 60-70 year old man in a Subaru pickup came down the lane with his lights flashing, horn blowing and he was hanging out the window waving to us all. Its small things like this that make owning a Subaru fun.
BTW you spelt waist wrong again its waste. .

let me first of all congratulate you on the number of spelling mistakes, i think the total is actually coming down, but you have yet to reach single figures i'm afraid
As for the whole turbo nova rant, i have owned a "proper WRX" for two and a half years before the current sti5 now.
And no, i see no irony, because any posting apart from the original one was for your benefit. I'm not going to sit back and listen to an out and out wally and not respond! If you're so thick you can't see what i said in the original posting then you've got a bigger problem with the English language than your dunce spelling.
If you are so convinced that i will convert to a new shape such as yours what makes you think you would not be converted to an unofficial import, new or old shape? If you took my STI prepared car out for a spin you'd know the difference between Jap spec and uk spec. I have driven the uk spec, and although a capable car is no match for imported STIs or even old WRXs, i KNOW i have driven all three varients, have you? I doubt it
As for the email request, I don't want to bore everyone with the full spec list of my car. You originally requested details of my car so you could "flip me the bird" if you saw me, how laughable. I think the finger in question would serve a better purpose stuck up your ar*e to stop your brains falling into your nappy.
There's a new fangled thing called a camera, why not point it at your noddy mobile and let us all bask in the glorious contours.
As for the price difference in official wrxs and jap ones, i never said that you could buy them at the lower price over here. No doubt, however, unofficial importers could get you the jap spec car with the "precious" 32 bhp increase a lot cheaper than subaru uk.
So, don't "waist" your time listening to me, get yourself into an import and then come back and see me
By the way, a sti5typeR can accelerate to 60mph in the same time as a ferrari 355 and beats all 911s up to gt1 and 2.(Oh i forgot, imports are ****!) So while you are racing reps in their vectras spare a thought on what might have been

New to this board, finding all this rather amusing! I think it's all gone too far - JZA and Scoobynutta, the only thing for it is a fair fight (no kicking, punching, head butting, hair pulling or screaming)p.s I drive UK MY 99 and would love a STI V6 or dare I say it an EVO6.(I'm a sinner I know.)
At the end of the day all the cars are performance bargains appreciate them!!!

Why the fascination with the whole nova thing? I never have and never will own a Vauxhall, never mind a nova. Yes i can spell, you patently cannot ie. "your a tw@t" should read 'you're a tw@t'for a start. I see you have dropped down to only three mistakes now, two less and you would be level with your IQ.

Blimey, even giving speelin lessons. My dsylexias a bytch i cna tel u!!! Dont have time to check speeling - its not that important to me to be honest.
Shame you cant just get along with everyone as well. I want to say HI to everyone who has an imported car and the following message:
I think your cars are excellent, please dont ever let your side down like this muppet has. Imports and UK cars a both great. We live in a world where we all have a choice, and should be greatfull of that fact. Both cars have their +ves and -ves. I think we should however show some respect!!
Im a biker, and there is absolutely no snobery amongst us bikers - be it sports bikers or tourers. We all wave at each other!! Because we all share a common pastime whatever speed or fashion we do it in.
Its a shame we (scoobiers) can't be like that - we even start slagging each others cars off like this idiot does.
Scoobynob, you are the weekest link - GOODBYE!!!

I saw the MY01 up close and personal on preview day motorshow 2000 and had a cheque book ready to order and get rid of my MY98 turbo UK. I didnt sign the cheque after seeing the car in the flesh. I went out the next day and brought a brand new MY00 import (I had waited to see the new one).
The import suited me personally and was my choice and I dont think I have made the wrong one. Having said that lets face it guys Subaru dont make a bad impreza turbo just different flavours. I wave at everyone assuming I get enough time . I dont see any problems at meets except that at the midlands meet I was the only one who had a UK motor and everyone else had a type R and took loads of friendly stick . Now rectified with a type RA.
I think there are a lot of new owners with MY01's who think they have a better overall car maybe so but you cant dismiss the old car as it was and still is a very capable piece of machinery and quick ( very quick in import form) . Until the replacement was announced it won virtually every magazine group test it was entered in. A car doesnt become bad over night unless its on a car survey but that another thread .
cheers
