One of the above is an .177air rifle and one a 7.62 rifle from any distance difficult to spot the differences. Also shooting/hunting near a primary school - if the Police had not responded in the manner they did then i would be shocked and stunned. Imagine if it was a beat bobby who approached the shooter, was then shot and the guy went onto the school...
This action taken was the right level of response IMHO and even being an air rifle the guy had no business carry an air rifle to shoot rats near a school.

OBL was already on the FBI most wanted list because of the 1998 Embassy bombing, which included evidence presented in a US court. At the time the Taliban said the evidence was 'insufficient' and that non-Muslim courts had no jurisdiction over Muslims.

Fast fwd to after 9/11 and it's clear the US (and nobody with any sense) is going to play the Talibans game when they deny even Muslim can be tried in secular courts. It would be stupid theater where the Taliban would each time say the evidence isn't goog enough. Bear in mind Taliban justice involved stoning women and rolling massive rocks onto gays and you claim they should be indulged!

As for resources Afghanistan isn't resource rich. It does have some minerals but as far as resources goes there are much better places.

Firearm law is pretty simple really, if you have anything that can be 'perceived' to be a firearm of any kind in public you are in deep doo doo. As you say from a distance you can't tell wether real or not so plod would treat it as real firearm.

No disrespect Kas (and I'm not point blank refusing to suggest these things may have happened from whichever army) but reports from the Guardian, Daily Mail and Telegraph I personally take with a pinch of salt. Sensationalist comes to mind with their reporting style.

 

I truely agree, the media always put there twist & turns in. However if you go back & look at video footage, which most sites have been banned now, then you would only understand what the truth is.

For example

Al jazeera footage - banned for showing true videos taken by British & US soldiers just for the fun of it. Little kids getting shot in the head etc. Sick stuff that would make you cry.

 

I'd like to think that was a small minority who committed atrocities like that, and of so, they aren't soldiers fighting a war that's for sure!
