hid pics, well worth it
Hm, all it needs now is to try to con a type approval person that it's a genuine Subaru item when I import it. How I'll manage that I have no bloody clue!
Aside: did the lights with the clear lenses and the ones with fluted have the same shape otherwise? Is it possible to swap them?

But I'm sure that number plates can be mounted in a was so they do not inhibit preformance that's how I got away with my gt4 one stuck on the bonnet and the proper gt4 wrc cars had them on the bonnet
Thanks! So, a projector retrofit on the scooby could actually go ahead with the original light.

When you put PROJECTORS on the car, the beam pattern and cutoff for dip are both done by the projector unit: there is both a reflector and a lens in it and it has a movable part that does dip cutoff.
So it needs NOTHING in front of it, to work properly, but we need to protect it from the elements, so we put CLEAR GLASS in front.
Thus, you need the CRYSTAL lights for the conversion to work properly.
Using the old, fluted lenses, will scatter the nice, crisp beam everywhere
I think you might be a bit mixed up, still.

I was musing only that to import the car I have in mind (type approval/homologation, MOT, etc.) I will first locally buy some used cheapo fluted lights (for LHD traffic) while converting the car's original (RHD) lights to projectors since they have clear glass and thus won't interfere with the beam.
I know.

THIS: www.theretrofitsource.com is where my stuff came from for my conversion, they are a pleasure to deal with, quite cheap for quality kit and will answer any questions before you buy, usually the same (working) day.
My stuff arrived here in under a week
Ah.......good plan.

This is going to hurt my pride, but I am man enough.
@alcazar - I was on a motorway last night, and much to my frustration I noticed the signs lit up for a fair distance infront of me... much further than my solid beams went.
So, hands in the air, I guess you are right about the scatter and when oppertunity arises I will be back to my rally bulbs.
How frustrating!

Hmm... the only concern I have is blinding other people on the road, they look awesome, I can finally see BUT if its is dangerous then that is a different story.. however... I didn't get one flash?...
Looking at both sides on this debate. I really cant see them being so dangerous. No-one flashing you is proof enough

And THAT was a joke too, as was the first one meant to be, since I covered it with smilies.
Don't take offence.
See how they go: ARE you getting flashed? CAN you see better?
The ones I've seen from a well-known trader on here, fitted to a classic, were appalling: poor dips and unusable main beams: they were actually WORSE to use than the old bulbs.
Brighter? Sure, but useless..........
Then I bought OSRAM RALLYE 65W (they're H7 bulbs, so 10W more than regular bulbs) and those bulbs perform actually a LOT better than the HIDs.
