Wink

I'll cancel my insurance then - provided I get less than 100 of those fines I'll be better off....

Not if you have an accident, are judged to be at fault and that accident just happened to involve a major pile up and several people died.....then you get sued for several million pounds in compensation and you are poor, paying it off for the rest of your life........

Couldn't happen to you? Happened to a guy I used to work with....

BuRR, thanks (as usual) for your knowledgable input!

Matt.

"Well there i am blasting up and down (and with a Blitz NUR spec. Exhaust, i mean blasting)"

Hope they don't read this board. Proof? Has this board ever been used against someone? Can it be?

I got reported for a similar thing only the riders reckoned their horse bolted.I too got told to be careful not to make a name for myself and be careful. The fact is that unless there are independant witnesses ie not a husband and wife then the CPS are unwilling to prosecute.I was told this by a copper.Drive through at 30mph in 1st next time

Don't know if this has been mentioned before....

There are noise limits for exhausts (as every sportsbike rider will tell you ) The police tend to pick on bikers more than cars (and Harley riders ) for infringement though. Although I would be surprised if the average TVR would pass a noise test.

Face it - loud cans are offensive to many, particularly if you drive up and down outside a quiet village for and hour and a half!!

If i'd been watching i'd have been encouraging you!

My car is seriously loud (Integra Type-R with HKS Hiper) but i am yet to get any complaints. Sometimes you just find people who have no comprehension or understanding of what you do or enjoy. And never will. I dont understand lawn bowls and they dont get fast cars...

The instant reaction is that you are being dangerous as they can hardly handle their piece of **** at 40mph and thus cant comprehend speed or the enjoyment of it.

Whats more depressing is that it can only get worse....

Rich,

Two pieces of advice for you.

1) Get yourself an anti-lag kit.

2) Organise a meet in your village for the rest of us to come to.

See where your coming from. The wonderful word is PROOF though. The cannot do you on someones word for it. However they would have to take a keen interest in you should more people complain.

In Scotland, they have to do you for something within 6 months. In other words you must be citated to appear in court within that period. If they were to have todays incident stay on your record, I would imagine they would have to have you in court and have a judge pass a probation kind of thing. In other words, its a bloody mine field out there as to what they can and cannot do.

One things for sure I wouldn't bloody take the exhaust off or anything, but I would behave myself for the next month or so atleast.

Always remember, us mature/sensible boys that drive modified motors drive at the speed limit in the 30mph zone (crusing etc), where as the mother of the 2 daughters, whilst on the b****y school run (?!>?!@@!@~~""!****!""!....sorry about that....raw nerve) probably doesn't even know where the bloody speedo is, let alone abides by the limit. You know the type, the type that think because they are 4-5ft higher off the ground, makes them kings of the road.
Another thing, if in the unfortunate circumstance, you were poddling along at 25-30mph, and you did hit someone, what would there chances be when you compare being hit by a Scoob/EVO or a huge muckle 4x4, with bloody great bull bars etc etc.

Sorry I'm diversing, I cannot stand 4x4 off-road things (land rovers, cherokees etc etc). Safe for the passengers, **** everyone else.

I don't know where everyone is getting the "They can't do you for...." from???

A court of law relies on the evidence of witnesses. If there were witnesses who were willing to give evidence to any offence, then these statements could be taken and put as support for any prosecution.

In a lot of cases, the police are merely collaters of evidence. Remember - a lot of assaults/burglaries/thefts are not witnessed by a police officer, but the offender can still be processed due to the say-so of a witness.

As for previous convictions - they can't be referred to in court, until after sentence.

What the officer in this case is probably on about it their local intelligence computer. He'll put that you were given a ho/rt to produce your documents and were verbally warned re your driving after a complaint from the locals. This will most probably be entered in the station's local intelligence. Say you're stopped weeks later after the same complaint. The next officer could see this information and it could determine his/her course of action upon you this time, which may make him wonder why you hadn't heeded your warning.

btw - this is just my opinion from my own experience in the force, and this would not necessarily be enforced by other officers or forces.

Remember - there's more than one way to bake a cake.

Road traffic offences remain "live" for six months untiil they go statute barred.

the OIS intelligence computers are subject to the data protection act, but remain on about 3 years before they are "weeded" when the person goes "inactive"

tbh - if RichieW has no convictions (and I mean criminal not traffic) then the information would have probably not been put on in the first place - in West Yorkshire's case anyway, as the system is mainly used to track known criminals.

I'm gonna stop contributing to these threads. Sometimes it feels like pi$$ing into the wind. I'm just sick of the ACAB mentality, just cos some of you may have been on the wrong end of something at some point.

Would you think the same about all electricians? all engineers? all sys ops?

...../gets off soapbox

Thanks for the replies and the support, and esp. BuRR for the advice. Also thanks to the police for the open mindedness that they showed, great job, and i never thought i`d be saying that!

I dont think it would do any good to tell you what village it took place outside of, but rather advise you all that it could potentially be *any* village.Moral been if your going to be revving(blasting?) a loud car up, then make sure you do it as far away from any built up area that you can! (My car would NOT pass any noise test, it is THAT loud, but i love it, and i love the attention it gets...... most of the time )

The annoying thing is, i never speed in 30/40 zones, my clean licence been testiment to this.Whats the point in risking your licence for the sake of doing 40 in a 30?? I risk it in the National Limits but never built up areas.I told the copper this but i could tell he didnt really beleive me."Mondeo Man" speeds so i`m bound to in my hotrod right?

I also give plenty of space to horse riders (admitedly i was alittle surprised to see these two as they were no where to be seen less then a minute earlier), more so than the majority of other car drivers i see everyday, and yet the way this woman was shouting you`d have thought i`d made both horses bolt off or sommat!(God forbid as they were meassive things and even the bloke said "she`s only just learnt to control one of them and it gets spooked very easily".......They didnt even bat an eyelid! )

The main problem was, i think, that the woman had been involved in a rear end shunt three weeks previous (some kid doing 60 in a 30), and is now walking with a very bad limp and cannot hardly move her head.Of course i bore the brunt of her resentment for the situation she was in.And who can blame her? ... I`m sure had i been in her position i wouldnt have been amused either.

oh, and one last thing, i was *very* appologetic for the stress that i had caused, and at the end of the day everything *seems* to be o.k. Had i been hot headed and started mouthing back, who knows, i may have ended up in court/whatever.I still believe i did nothing wrong or dangerous, but sometimes you just got to swallow ya pride and say sorry!

Just be careful out there!

Rich.
