Hopefully enough people will see this, so they can be warned to be careful, until there is some closure. Whether that be a ban, or for him to do the decent thing and put his side across and hopefully resolve this problem. Please don't just think this is being ignored.

Aprt from one or two people no one replied so it died a death.

The trouble is when the scammers are quiet no one wants the hassle of doing anything to improve the FS section yet when they are active and causing issues it becomes a hot topic for a few days.

I know we keep hearing the line it isn't Ebay, but really shoudln't a core part of the community be the trading area and therefore shouldnl't some effort be put into making it better?

Yeah and i bet the 2.1engine and the PPG gearbox arnt what he says it is! it will be a factory scooby box and engine he will just be saying its a 2.1 ect.

Even if he said he has all reciepts for the work carried out i wouldnt believe him he will of most probley kept all the good parts for him self then tryed selling them on as upgraded parts when there not.

Love it! The guy is ripping people off but that's fine as long as he pays to be a trader.

Logic?

Need to clear a few things up here:

Fake item was NOT sold on Scoobynet.
So this is out of the realm of (what little) control we have on that aspect.

The only person (singular not plural) ripped off is the OP, and he is only on here is because he googled the seller's phone number (always a good thing to do before entering into a sale, I may add).

Ebay ID looks pretty clean, Starlet owners thread is inconclusive; Could the OP be the one in the paypal dispute on that other forum?

On the premise of a being a trader, unless I/We see evidence of continuous serial transactions to show evidence of selling items to form part of a regular income, thats a dead end anyway. But if he were, then it would be a swift way to 'remove' the problem, as most small timers don't want to pay AA fees as they want to stay 'off the books' (so to speak). This is what I believe NS04 was implying.

So on that basis, I say thanks for the heads up. Its always appreciated as any users wanting to do any background checks before buying will be able to find this thread through a search of the user's name.

But as for any further action based on what information is available as of current, I'd prefer to give the benefit of the doubt before going any further. Maybe a "under investigation" tag, which doesn't really means anything (leftover user group from the SDB days), but the red writing in his username may help promote a response; As often experienced there's always two sides to every story.

It goes without saying that the default advice to everyone looking to buy something should check out a seller's background before buying, from anywhere, not just SN. If something is too good/cheap to be true, it often is (I note the OP was buying only to sell it on for a profit anyway - something I don't really approve of ). Always treat new users treat with with high suspicion, reputation means alot and thats why itrader should be used alot more than it is of present.

Surely like Ebay (I know I did) you'd look at how long he's been a member, how others have felt after trading with him.
This. We all need to take responsibility here, it's buyer beware for a very good reason ...

FAO mods

In all fairness, if a paedo worked his way through a primary school you wouldn't let him work as caretaker at your school as well.

A bit OTT I know, but if he is scamming on other car forums and it is proven then (like NESF did with the scammer on here a month or so ago) he should be banned to protect the people who pay good money to be members on here.

Logic = He's paid to rip people off! JUST KIDDING!

You misunderstood the context of that reply, mate.

Someone asked me if he had to advertise if he was breaking cars for a living/for profit to which the answer is yes.

Of course, scamming is not allowed irrespective of AA or no AA status!

Myles, we can't ban people for their conduct on other forums, mate! We we're not privy to all the facts! TBH I wouldn't let anyone who spends time on a web forum be a caretaker in a school!

They stand or fall depending on their conduct on here.

In the meantime if people just use I-trader and if they're gonna deal with newbies use a method of payment where there is some prospect of you getting their money back if things go **** up, this is much less likely happen! Although I understand that this transaction did not occur on SN. Didn't even realise that last night......gotta quit drinking!

As Ali says, I think the fact that we're letting this thread stand is about all we can do until the individual has responded.

I must agree about iTrader. When it becomes a system that get used EVERY time a transaction is made it will have the same kind of clout as the eBay feedback system (in theory). At the moment though, I still see people saying 'Ive bought loads on here', then their feedback score is 2!! Not helping yourselves guys!

If it is obvious that the guy is scamming elsewhere, it would be prudent to at least temporarily ban him to protect the membership, even if you are doing it to protect the mods from the 'I told you so' and 'mods out' brigades.

Mate, we'd be banning him for something he has "allegedly" done on another forum and in doing so, preventing him from putting his side of the story forward on this BBS. It is important that both parties get a chance to give their version of events and in doing so a chance to resolve any issue before we start banning etc...

Appreciate the concern for the mods though!

If fairness most other feedback ebay looks OK with exception to a removed sale of a laptop (which the buyer didn't buy). Take that as the equivelent of a caretaker's CRB check, if you will.

Also, how do you know the OP isn't bullsh*tting? He's also a newbie user of which we know nothing about. How do we know for sure he didn't swap the covers himself? (I'm not implying it, but it has to be kept in mind).

Why is he not on here giving his side of the story he must have e-mail set up if he is selling parts and surely you can suspend his forsale until he clears this up atleast

You bought something cheap on Ebay, what do you expect?

You've had your fingers burnt, so learn from it!

FFS, I could buy a sticker off Ebay, "tuned by HKS/STI/Mines/YuMug/etc etc" slap it on an Ecu case and say it was an "uprated" Ecu!

For your own good, don't believe 99% of the crap on Ebay!

Maybe i should of frased that comment abit better!..When i said cheap i didnt mean cheap as in cheap as chips lol..The ecu wasnt cheap at all i paid 320 for it they usually sell for around 450 so to put it abit better i got it at a reasonable price should we say!

And yeah i agree i could got an buy some stickers off ebay and make some fake ecus but the hole point of this thread is i havent see it done befor i have you? so putting this thread up will hopefully make people think twice befor anything not just ecu's.

General rule of thumb that works for me, avoid people that join and sell a load of stuff in the first couple of posts and have just paid the £5 to be able to sell

I always believe if you can't afford to loose the money don't buy cheap

So many great reputable suppliers on here and on the local forums which are recommended by others and people still buy off eBay

Every month there is someone scammed which normally gets 2/3 pages of comment s
Yet if some one wants to buy something or ask advise about a seller or supplier they should post up here fIRST for advice
A bargains not a bargain if it doesn't work or doesn't do the job it's meant too or you get ripped off in the process

^^^ As he says

Do your homework BEFORE you buy!

If you are looking for a car you tend to research it before you buy it and not after.........same rule applies to parts and dealers/stealers

I agree somewhat but tbh i didnt have time to do any research it was on ebay and the auction was ending so as most people do you see a bargain you buy it!

Anyways i am in discusion with PPgccooby as we speak over this matter the first message i've had! lets hope something can be sorted and questions can be answerd.
