Pinning costs around 500-800 and i think that making CDB is two times more.You can find pinned block in this project and CDB here

My idea was to build a block that could handle 500 and run it on low 400s just to be sure(420/420 for road GC8 must be nuts).

 

hmm okey quite a bit more expensive then.

Right now I'm thinking about going for a new age semi closed deck block with standard internals. Then run a SC42 billet turbo and aim for 400-420hp. That would be a good setup for a road car.

I think the car will be vary fast with that, but if I would like more power I just put in forge internals,stroke it to 2.1 and buy a bigger turbo.

Haven't updated for a time now but it haven't happened much. But last week one of the oil cooler hoses broke. The ECU did what it suppose to do so it saved the engine. I got the oil pressure connected to the ECU so it cuts the power and revs when the oil pressure drops.


It shouldn't look like this =)..



New vs old hoses.




Yesterday I was out to shoot some video on the car. I washed the car and went for a drive in the sunny afternoon.



Took a snapshot in between locations.

What makes the new hoses better than the old ones?

 

The new ones are steelbraided teflon hoses. The old ones are just steelbraided rubber hoses. I got told that the rubber ones is rated to max 100 degrees celcius. So I suppose thats why it failed( after 1.5 years).

The new teflon hoses is rated to 240 degrees celcius and 200 bars so I think they will hold up

I noticed in your pictures that you don't run a firesleeve around the hoses in the vicinity of the exhaust manifold. Those would give you some extra protection for the hoses against the heat.

 

Yes. I will look into that. But my hose fail at the connection on the oil cooler.

Yeah. I gave the car a couple of new bits for the 2012 season =). It's so much fun to drive. It sticks to the road like glue.

I was definitely going to get the pick up and baffle, but now I'm for sure getting the entire package. That Pan looks really Nice! What oil pump are you using. I'm prolly going to go with the 2008 11mm pump. Our cars come with the 10mm right? And I heard the 12mm is overkill. I'm also curious if the blueprinted Cosworth 10mm pump is equivalent to the stock 12mm, or more like the 11mm. For $300, it better massage my pistons with oil and give them a happy ending.. Lmao

 

I'm running the stock pump. Yeah we got a 10mm pump and I've heard the same thing about the 11 and 12 mm pumps.

 

I loved they video bro! But what was up with all the Accelerate then coast, accelerate than coast?!? Haha gotta down shift and keep it throttled! Also what engine management are you running? I noticed you wer hitting 7500rpms and no rev limiter. That can be dangerous. I set my Rev limiter to 6500-7000 on one map and on my other map I have it set to 4000. I can't wait to have my Type-R running. I've never driven a car with dccd, and I just can't wait to roll it back and drift a parking lot like you did at the end! Thanx for sharing that. There aren't enough Type-R videos out right now. Just a few worth watching.

Well it is public roads and there can be other cars there so I don't want to drive on the limit. I got a brain to think with you know =).

I'm running Link G4 PnP, it works great!

I got the limiter set to 7800rpm I think. But I rarely rev it to more than 7000-7500rpm. The stock revlimiter is set to 8000rpm so it wouldn't be any problem =).


There will be a new video this season =). A better one.

I've wondered how the G4 matches up to the Apexi PFC. I've always been a fan of the Apexi, but I've heard great things about G4 Link as well. Does it allow you to run MAFless? Cuz I've heard a lot of people trading the Apexi in for other EMs so that they can eliminate the faulty MAF in the ver5/6, also the same as a 99RS.
Have you heard anything about the AEM Infinity? There is a 8-10 & 12 model, and the 12 model is like $3.5k!!! I want to know what that does, that Apexi & G4 can't do.

 

The G4 works great. I don't know how it is compared to the Apexi but I like it.

It does allow MAFless, one of the big things why I changed to an aftermarket system.

Haven't heard anything about the AEM.

Well it seems I got a new goal with my car. A new engine and aim for 400bhp+.

Still haven't decided on with path to choose. It will be either scdb 2.1L or 2.5L. It will be a road car that hit the tracks now and then. Can a 2.5L handle the 400-430bhp on a daily basis? And does my heads(STI ver5) fit on a 2.5L block?

 

Wtf happened.bro? Serious.stuff right there. Scares me because I have the.same block! If you don't get a USDM 2.5, I would get a Ver8/9 RA-R 2.0! They are the best Subaru engines made IMO. They definitely have the best flowing heads. I'm trying to find one right now that isn't $10k.
So what did you do, throw a rod out the side of ur block? How much boost were you running?
Also, a question that I've been wanting to ask you, I have decided to run the Link G4 Plug n Play ECU, and I know ur running Link as well, Have you set up any aux outputs? I want to run the ALS to a toggle switch to turn it off and on easier, and also, CoolingMist has put out a new Water/Methanol kit that hooks up to piggy back and stand alone.ECUs, so u can have the ECU do all the duty cycles at w/e psi you want ect ect..
But mainly I wanted to know if you have messed around with the Anti Lag at all.

 

I was flooring it on a b-road and it just did go bang/rattle. I'm not sure what happened but the block is ****ed. But the engine turns over so it hasn't pinched.

I'm gona look into it further sometime later. No hurry getting it ready.

I'm running about 1.4 bar of boost.

I've set up one aux for a toggle switch to change boost map. One cruise and one race.


Well I just need the block not the whole engine. I would need a new ECU to be able to use the never heads since it has AVCS. A 2.5L with a sc turbo would be a killer on the streets =)

 

Also, there is a thread on NASIOC about 207 heads on 2.5 blocks. The guy posted all the charts too...
But if I was you, I would get a ver8 s204 RA-R spec c engine tranny package! I have been looking at one that has 60k km on it for $9.7k... Kinda spendy
