Why do you want to change it? What's wrong with it as it is?
Where is the chassis lacking?

Not really sure, it just doesn't feel as planted on the road as I'd like. Skips about a bit powering out of bumpy corners too. Might just be a few worn bushes tbh but whilst I'm sorting that it may be good to upgrade

In that case, id start with adding a 24mm rear roll bar and some solid rear drop links. And most importantly, get your geometry done and tyre pressures.

I better get up early Saturday then to clean mine, don't want to be the dirty one in the corner! (car that is)
Just put the final coat of mud on last night so should be another epic sight for Saturday! Japfest didn't help, muddy field and country roads!

If I get up early enough I may dab her with a wet flannel

Nick,
As well as checking all the bushes. What tyres are you on and what sort of driving do you do?
Tyres are one of the biggest game changers on an impreza. They're a fussy car for dramatically altering their characteristics due to different tyres.

How longs a bit of string mate. All depends on how you want the car to feel. Personally my fav tyres on the impreza for road are RE070s.
Many people dislike that they tramlines due to mega stiff sidewalls and they're more slippery in the wet.
You won't get a tyre that provides better steering response and feedback than those for the road.
They were fitted to stis as standard and Nissan had them specially made on 20" for the GTR.
Only available in 17" though.
I'm on 18" Vredesteins and they're alright, not amazing. Michelin Pilot sports are a great road tyre as are the exaltos.
Also a huge fan of Federal 595 RSRs I use these daily on my Clio.
Not forgetting R888s but not ideal for the road.

I'm only just wising up to the world of car tyres. I know loads about motorcycle tyres but I've never had a car worthy of decent rubber until now. My 18's have got some sort of black round rubber on them, Kumo or something like that. Not exactly helping am I?

As for driving, I'd class myself as 'spirited'! As a paramedic, i drive a rapid response car so I'm "progressive" to coin a phrase

As said though Nick, how long is a piece of string?

Brake pads for example:

I know people that have used Ferodo DS2500s for trackdays and sworn by them, they come as standard with all AP Racing big brake kits. Personally i think theyre pants and can get them to fade on the road without any trouble.

Thats not an "Ohh look at me, look how fast i drive and how agressive i brake!" comment.

Its a simple, what works for some people doesnt for others. Tyre choice for a road car is very much a personal thing. Track is different...
You'll find that many track bias tyres wont be happy on the road simply because 99% of drivers cannot put the heat into them on the road that they require to work efficiantly. Personally i find most road tyres horrid to drive on because they have such low rigidity in their sidewalls and so have horrid steering feel and turn in. Road tyres are quiet and comfortable, something track based tyres are not.

I'm with BLING BOY

Pretty good on track too due to the hard walls and 'sticky when warm' compound, I have used them for around 12 trackdays and love them to bits, can be a bit slippy on wet roads until they warm up a bit though!

I've found Goodyear F1's to be very good on road but aren't the cheapest. A friend of mine has a Datsun R34 GTR and uses the Federal 595 RSR's for mainly track with the odd bit of road driving, he reckons they are really good all rounders for the price.

Speaking to Budgie who drives a 500bhp Hawkeye on track, he likes the 888's but has mentioned that they get too hot after a while and can 'go off' (but he can really pedal that car so probably different for lesser spec cars) I wouldn't recomend them as road tyres though.

As Frayz says, the first thing to do for improving handling is a 24mm rear anti-roll bar, solid drop-links front and rear, and a proper allignment for fast road settings, made a massive difference to both my Scoobs, after that try an anti-lift kit (caster kit) or bump steer for a classic and then a 22mm front anti-roll bar, if your still not happy, thats the time to try uprated bushes and maybe coil-overs, but remember any coil-over kit will have compromises for our bumpy British roads, they are fantastic for silky smooth trackdays but may be a bit much for B road blasts for some people and some of the cheapy items may need regular maintanence to keep them working to their best abilities (coming form an ex-bugeye owner with BC's)

PS - depending if I sober up in time, I maybe at the meet later, unless my head thinks otherwise
