Stay off boost! Thats all you need to do!
Easy with a boost guage...keep in vacuum and basically you have a 8.0:1 compression N/A engine!
(A 8.0:1 ratio n/a engine can typically run 91Ron 2 star without det..eg ex-military Land Rover v8s )
Put this another way with 0psi manifold pressure a typical modern engine can run up to 10:1 compression on 95RON. You have a 8.0:1 engine. The only difference is you have the ability run under positive pressure, but you have direct control to prevent this with your right foot!
So its simple....moderate your right foot and treat the pedal like an eggshell. Keep it below 3000revs and don't lug/labour the engine (i.e drop below 2000revs with large throttle opening ). If you can't do this, I suggest selling the car as you can't adapt your driving abilities or buy octane booster.
You could re-pipe the wastegate actuator so it runs 0.5bar max boost, but thats just substituting what you should be doing with your right foot!

Have decided to buy a bottle of this:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_255221
or maybe some of this:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id_255221#tab1
You guys are all making me so paranoid i just want to be on the safe side!
I did however read a very interesting article about adding toluene...

personally i would go for this one

£13 and only treats 20LT of fuel. So gonna cost you an extra £39 If you wanna fill your tank.
Sure I would....Including the fuel you'd be looking at about £120
Think I'd wait for shell to restock.

just bought a bottle of this from my local halfords as I couldnt wait for the roger clarker octane booster to be delivered as recommended:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_21 6215_langId_-1_categoryId_255221?msg=&_$ja=tsid:35532|kw:85386& cm_mmc=Affiliates-_-AffiliateWindow-_-85386-_-n%2fa&awc=1672_1333466974_4398243c12bffbafaa419b85 b4282a9b
Have done some research on it and its meant to be a pretty good octane booster.
Have put half a bottle in just under half a tank of fuel so should do the trick.I ts so annoying driving round at a max of 3000 rpm im itching to hear that turbo spool up

A knocklink (or other knock detection device) is a very good investment for a modified scooby....especially for times like this! But you can get a dodgy batch of fuel at any time!
You have had some sound advice off some great people, JUST STAY OFF BOOST, However you will always get numpties that have spoken to a mapper for 10mins and feel they are the new yoda (ignore them)
One thing to remember that Bob Rawle told me... it will take 3 tanks of the good stuff to dilute and get rid of the crap stuff. Bare that in mind when you get back onto the good stuff before giving it beans. That's why this weekend gone, I made a day out of getting Vpower from 30 miles away as I couldn't bare 4 tanks worth of trying to drive off boost on a TD04.

I would assume (but take no responsibility for) that it would be a reasonable amount he's referring too, 1/2 tank or more etc running down to the light etc.
Car seems to be fine, nearly at the end of that tank of fuel, so looking forward to brimming her with some tasty V power
Im assuming i can give it the beans when shes full of the good stuff again?
Cant wait

Unless you drain the tank completely, then no. Because even with the fuel light on you'll still have about 2 gallons left in the tank. So by filling up you'll dilute the mixture but not to a full tank of 99. That's what my point about 3 tanks to dilute it enough not to cause harm when hard driving. And that's what Bob Rawle said to me, if you'd bothered to read and understand my previous comment earlier...

The car has had 2 Ecutek remaps on it, not sure if the ecutek software will inform me if the car is detting?
That was my point.
well i have some of this in

Are you serious?
Normal unleaded =95ron
Super-unleaded or premium = 97ron
BP ultimate =98 i believe.
Shell v-power and Tesco momentum = 99ron
just about everywhere sells premium unleaded 97ron. Shell probably don't because they sell 99ron.

BP ultimate is only 97ron.
Infact most supers are 97 and most normal unleaded is 95.
Tesco's fancy stuff is 99 but only sold in some stores, their normal super is 97. The old shell optimax was 98 but their VPower is 99.

id hate to be pigeon holed to shell 99, obviously people who do that dont really use it as a DD.
I know the 2011 did have 98 on fuel Cap and when u get the 320R Map they change it to 97Ron. Which for me is good as i only ever use 99 Vmax and 97ron Esso and the odd Sainsburys 97Ron.
Dont have a Tesco thats local :/

I did a 700mile run last week visiting family across (uk). I nearly ran out twice and had to use cheapo fuel. Really gauling that I then passed Shell garages only a few mles passed where I'd bottled out. Then again I did have 370miles showing on the trip and I never venture past 240 here.
Only put 20 litres in each time but drove like Ms daisy all the way for an average of 29mpg.
Did I mention that an 8:1 cr n/a 2.5litre car driving a 4wd transmision will always give utter crap fuel efficiency due pumping and transmission losses. Eugh... Hence higher cr on modern cars.
Fortunately for me I only had 3 litres left when I filled up in Lancaster. Normal service resumed.
I'm glad I fitted the boost gauge. my safety net is pulling the plug off the three-way boost regulator and setting the prosports to beep at 0.1 BAR boost. Patience of a nun helps too!

Before mapping mybscoob when it was running a catback I achieved 34mpg on a run to Lancashire and back from Scunthorpe. Couldn't believe it and the car wasn't running lean either.

numpties.
Shell does 95 and v power!
