I only post on weekends in here now for something to do at work, and even then it's hard to find good threads worth contributing to. Shame, as I have made a lot of good mates on here over the years, and shared a lot of brilliant times. The WYIOC was amazing for several years, but like here, the new blood don't seem to have the passion, commitment or drive to keep things fresh, exciting and interesting. I think the state of society in general, particularly the economy, has ruined the whole car scene, making owning and enjoying fast cars both expensive and unsociable. I might not be far behind you Bubba

Same here Bubs. I'll miss you on here, but I'll see you on the 'dark side', along with our other ex-snet chums.

I keep coming in here, more out of habit, and because it kind of seems disloyal not to, but it's a shadow of it's former self. And there are some right ***** in here now.

Interesting post Bubba.

I haven't posted loads on here, but been on here for years.

Haven't visited much in the past couple of years since the Scoob's been SORN'd since 2009 (!) but have started coming back recently as I thought it time to get her back on the road, and some things have changed personally.

That gap has shown that loads of the folks that used to be here don't seem to exist anymore, or don't post much. There's some proper characters missing

Not being the most technically gifted I'm having to learn whose advice can be trusted and who the BS'ers are; bit of a PITA when you want to do the best for your car and not F*** it up!

I post on 22B now and again but am waaayy behind those guys in skills (and budget!)

Anyway, I need to get a drive clutch cable sorted for my Mountfield mower so see you on the other side soon!

Have fun,
Steve

I'm afraid, for me, there's a couple of recent-ish members who have really buggered SN up - especially NSR.
I don't find it fun anymore.

I read more than I post, now.

Home now is PH and Chew the Fat.

The site certainly has changed over the years - NSR always had a good few threads in it to give me a giggle and there were some tight characters (Mycroft anyone?).

I too don't post here much these days

I don't mean this thread to be a "look at me" thread, it's just that I have so much history here that I can't just quit and say nothing. I've moved on from cars, although I really only loved one car - the classic MK1 Impreza turbo. It's just been a strange set of circumstances that's kept me on the site all these years. I've had some of my happiest times and also some of my angriest times on here. Anyone who says "it's only the Internet" doesn't really get it.

I really mean it. I'm not leaving through anger or hurt feelings - it's just that the Qualcast lawnmower site has more traffic now, and I've lost interest in cars. I'm not moving to PH, although I've protected my ID by registering.

If anybody has anything to say to me on this thread then I'll reply to it in the best way I can, but essentially it's properly over.

Bob.
I know what you mean, I was just taking the micky (only slightly )
I used to post like mad on here years ago, drunk, sober, it didnt make any difference. It was always a place to have a laugh, rub a few people up the wrong way when you felt like it, get some quick answers to tricky questions, share some of your thoughts and just generally waste many hours.

The whole muppet episode was a black time indeed on SN. I still remember the whole 'reorganising' episode with silly badges, Infractagate and ClownWatch. Dear God that may have driven traffic on the site but at what cost ? Many people left or were pushed, people fell out with each other and over what ?

I even remember years back trying to do something for the site, a scoobynet FAQ to let all the new members find their way around the site, answer all the usual questions. I even built 2 websites and spent time and effort in getting it right. Showed it to SDB , that was a waste of time.
BUt hey we all live and learn and sometimes people move on, some stay but this site has definitely changed. And not in a good way

I dont, unfortunately have a decent Petrol Lawnmower as my lawn is crap so cannot join you

Have fun and keep up the good work on the 'whittling'

I still own an Impreza, and I think I'll keep it until it completely dies - it probably uses a greater cost of fuel per year than its current monetary value, even with my four miles per day commute, but it's nine years of my history.

The site is dead, there's no getting away from it. I've had some awesome times and made some permanent, extremely close friends through the site.
I won't do names, but you all know who you are.

Thanks.

I'm 49. It's passing the 60k post mark that's brought it home to me. The last thousand has taken ages, and the last hundred felt like a lifetime. There were no threads to post on, hardly any characters left to banter with... I just realised I was only here to get my post-count to 60k, and what a pointless exercise that was.

60000 posts at a maximum theoretical posting rate of one post every 30 seconds. That's at least 21 days of your life spent posting on here non stop.

The site is simply too big now with far too many un-used / under used forums. It's a pain looking through loads of forums to find threads of interest. Lets have a cull and lose 20+ of them.

Blimey - the CD! That brings back memories.

At least PistonHeads actually printed a "yearbook" you could get in WH Smiths (granted Haymarket have a slightly bigger budget!)

Sincere best wishes Bubba, despite our occasional lack of agreement. Hope you will still look in from time to time.

Congrats on the 60K.

Whilst Scoobynet will carry on a small part of the knowledge, wit and humour is lost. A part of what makes Scoobynet is lost.

Amen

The Bikers & Sports section used to both be nearly as busy as NSR, then it was decided to relegate them right down to the bottom of the page (along with Other Marques for a time ), below a stack barely used Club and For Sale forums, and killed them off at a stroke

Lighten up guys and gals, you all talk as if its end of the world. So a few notable members have chosen not to post here anymore (no doubt they'll still be lurking in the background just to see what's what, even now!!). It's not like they were the first to move on and they certainly won't be the last. So good luck to you and bid you farewell. Those that remain will carry on and keep posting along with the new members.

This forum goes through peaks and troughs all the time. Come a few months or even weeks times when these sort of "farewell" threads go tens of pages back, things will be back up to speed again. We'll see some of the familiar names pop up regularly a long with some new members. It's only inevitable that "older" members dwell on the past and get all nostalgic when someone you've "known" for some time decides to leave, but you know what, say your farewells as life goes on, there'll still be lots of banter, p!ss taking and personal spats on current affairs and just about any other thing that boils our p!ss, because lets face it, there's never any shortage on things to moan about. Like everyone else I post on other forums too, yes I even have PH and CtF account of the same name but I still come back here. I'm coming up to 10 years posting on here and I don't have a Subaru, never have done, bring on the fresh meat is what I say!!!

Things have certainly changed on here.

I've noticed it most in the Essex section. It used to be so busy in there with new threads being added constantly. Go away for a day and you would have at least 3 pages of threads to catch up on.

Now it's "busy" if there are 3 threads a day, let alone pages.

Still can't stay away from here though. Started on PH but it doesn't have the same feel and there are soooo many forum sections!!

Its not what it used to be 5 years ago, I for one cannot stand the chav-spk & mongs that cannot communicate even on a basic level, yet expect help with a technical issue.

The other thing is the new 'scene' of all the gay stanced cars that are trying to be like slammed dubbers.

Finally, there are the section of people that think Snet is working class & if you decide to buy another brand then they brand you a "rich ****" - now I have a pretty thick skin & this doesn't actually bother me, but the knuckle-dragging section security needs beefing up so they can't freely roam the rest of the forum.

It won't be long before I'm out of here too, not that it will bother anyone & I won't be making a thread to announce it, It's just not the place it used to be. I wish IB never took over, they have a few automotive sites under their control that I use & are regularly down more than a *****'s drawers.

Peace out Bubba!

can you transfer your post count to another forum

it wouid be good to be allowed to delegate a forum as your "principle forum" and be able to transfer a well earned post count between forums

maybe it would only work between similiar themed forums, it would look odd to suddenly appear on a lawnmower forum with a large post count

but worth thinking about
