Thanks, you may have finally converted me. As I've said before 90% of all music is sh7te (including my own beloved genres) it's about finding the 10% that isn't.

It's nice to know there is some trance out there that can make my foot tap

I had never heard of Ferry Corsten (as I don't follow trance) but will try and buy some of his tunes
I seen Ferry Corsten quite a few times back years ago, really decent DJ although he wasn't the last word in turntablism but his set buildups were great!

David Guetta makes half decent throw away pop tunes, it does what it says on the Tin, now evry second rate yank is 'discovering' house as you can be talenless and have a house hit, such is lfe the charts will soon find somthing new and the world moves on.

To further Dingdongler's retrospective conversion:

Another Trance classic:

Lost Witness - Happiness Happening

...and a Gatecrasher trance classic:

Boccaccio Life - The Secret Wish

In a minute I'll be reminiscing about how good Tom Toms used to be, and how everythings crap now...

Simon, are you aware of the mini reunion night going on in Manchester at a basement club called 'Dry Live' on Oldham Street. It's being run by a night called Plasma Future who have similar views to yourself regards trance music and it's heyday. 300 capacity and they have Scott Bond booked to do a 3 hour set of whatever he wants. 7th April, all over Facebook if you're on there?

I used to be into the trance in the early 90's... Ministry of Sound releasing Trance Nation CDs every 4 months or so.
Is Paul Van Dyk still about these days?

I noticed Paul Oakenfold DJ's at Godskitchen Birmingham last Sat night, I was tempted to go.

Back on topic, not a fan of David Guetta either

Damn it.

I wasn't aware you are/were on Facebook, you are "Simon the raver" to me. That didn't bring up any search results on Facebook

I do like all types of 'dance' music going back to the days of MARRS through to the modern era, although (hangs head in shame) I do quite like the Guetta remix of Snoop Dog's Sweat.

But I agree it's 'bubblegum' dance music and is popular in the short term until the market tires or gets bored with it, probably in a few years people will look back on it in the same way we thought of Jive Bunny.

The thing is guys you say the heyday of this sort of music was 99/2000. Yet when I listen to it I find it's not dissimilar to some early house/hardcore/acid that I listened to back in 1989ish. It's not moved on a great deal. It's also not a million miles from some even earlier electro I was into about 1980ish (I was very young then btw lol)

So when I hear this stuff, though some sounds quite good I don't find it original at all. It just sounds like stuff I was listening to over twenty years ago but then personally moved on.

That stuff was very underground at the time and it seems that artists from circa 1999 have taken credit for almost creating it when it just happened to become more widely recognised with things like Gatecrasher etc

Just my imho
