They need to scrap car-tax and apply it to fuel prices. This CO2 rubbish is a load of codswallop as I do 20k miles a year in a 1.2 that costs me £30 to tax and a scoob that costs me over £400 to tax and i do less than 8k miles... Which of those two do you think is producing more CO2 ?

Being serious for a minute that is the difference between you and me.
All I have done at the start of this thread is give my opinion as to why Subaru are dead in the water in the UK which I happen to believe is down to the hatch being not exactly the greatest car in the world. I have explained why I think that and obviiously I am entitled to my opinion, but the way you and your chums carry on you would think I had murdered your granny rather than just give an opinion on a car you drive.
The result is you feel it necessary to repeatedly try and take shots at the cars I drive, but that is where the difference lies,. I don't take it as some sort of personal critcism of my very existence, in fact I couldn't care less what someone else says or thinks of my choice in cars (especially if they champion the hatch ). As long as I am happy then that's all that matters to me and it would do you lot no harm to be the same way and accept not everyone shares your enthusiasm for Subaru's recent offerings.
It speaks volumes about how you really feel about your purchase that you feel the need to defend it so vigorously. Freud would have a field day with the psychology at work there

It costs the same to tax an RS as it does the hatch. A fookin fortune.

Following the unprecedented sub zero temperatures being experienced in parts of the Mediterranean area, world scientists are now swaying towards the theory of an impending ice age. The British government, which can always be relied upon to immediately swallow hook line and sinker any crackpot theory as to climate change, are expected to encourage motorists to drive cars that emit as much CO2 as possible. Road fund tax is expected to be modified with cars previously rated in the £440 plus tax bracket now being exempt from tax, and those emitting less than 100 units now to be taxed at the highest rate. Details to be announced in the next budget.

The bottom line is the impreza sales slump is as a result of many factors. Some would say the exchange rate is a big factor. For me I.M (Subaru U.K) have just made too many mistakes in lot's of areas.
My prediction is that the BRZ will breath a bit of life into Subaru but only if they get the price point right. The GT86 is pitching at £25k. Subaru need to pitch the same (certainly not more).
Subaru's other big saviour is the XV. Reports on this suggest it is nothing more than a 3/5 car, one mag i read gives it a 2.
I still feel they have lost the plot.

Trouble is, this size of vehicle is where all the sales growth is at present. To steal the show it has to be very very good.

I think the XV needs a wider choice of engines,ie like a low CO2 petrol turbo.
They also need decent autobox option on the diesel.
Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh and trying one.
Only UK reviews are mixed, the ones in Oz and US seem much more positive.

Subaru are doing very well in the US & Oz. But our car 'experts' think everything should be designed to British tastes. Also, call me cynical, but look at any car mags website - say Autocar for example, and you'll see the big players (BMW or Merc etc etc) advertising on there. As such, given its a commercial mag, it wouldn't make business sense to give a poor review on a car produced by companies who pay your wages now would it?
