My hawk 2006 JDM made

Untouched 295bhp
Remap for uk fuel 329bhp
MILTEK exhaust and remap 351bhp

The problem maybe because the engine advance is cut back due to detting as Jap map is 100ron and remapped to uk97 Ron

Tony

That is impressive. I am tempted to get mine mapped once the exhaust has been fitted as it has never been modded and was imported new it may still have the JDM map.

Sounds like your car's IAM retarded itself down, if they would have checked (like any good rolling road would have) they may have seen what your multiplier was set at.
Ive owned 2 Spec C's, the first one made the 316bhp, didnt see the same rolling road (and 3 owners later) for 5 years, went back to the same rolling road and made 314bhp, so make of that what you will

My new Limited made 312bhp with a faulty sensor, would expect her to push similar to the first one (well whats 4bhp )

Your multiplier knocked itself back, simple as, first car didnt have any uk fuel map, 2nd does, power output is similar (though the jdm map felt more agressive than the uk fuel map).
Make of that what you will

I had my my05 jdm remapped with 3 port and on 97 Ron fuel to make life easier, mapper told me about 340 after map but tbh it doesn't feel any different to standard Jap map, so they must be good out the factory and defo in the 300 to 320 bracket, so comparable to a wr1

Here's some of the differences the MY06/MY07 JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) STi has over the UK version.

• JDM is 2.0ltr UK/Europe is 2.5ltr
• Twin scroll turbo
• Nitride coated, cross drilled crank
• 13:1 STi quick rack
• Slightly larger intercooler design
• Auto and manual intercooler spray (UK get manual activation only)
• More aggressive inlet cams
• Equal length headers
• Electric folding wing mirrors
• 235 width tyres (UK get 225)
• 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th same as UK, 5th and 6th are shorter
• Front STi titanium strut brace
• 8,000rpm redline

Spec C

The MY06 Spec C is approx 90Kg lighter than the standard STi due to the following changes:

• Rear wash wipe **deleted**
• Privacy glass **deleted**
• Deadlocks **deleted**
• Boot trim and carpet **deleted**
• Passenger sun visor **deleted**
• Grab handles **deleted**
• Ski hatch **deleted**
• Glove box light **deleted**
• Isofix child seat fixing point **deleted**
• Underseal **deleted**
• Sound deadening **deleted**
• Map lights **deleted**
• Speakers in rear doors **deleted**
• Centre diagonal inertia seatbelt **deleted**
• Side airbags **deleted**
• HID headlights **deleted**

However, the Spec C has the following changes over and above even the JDM STi:

• Thinner lightweight glass
• Lightweight roof
• Aluminium boot lid
• 12 litre intercooler spray bottle mounted behind the rear seats
• Different radiator and water pump
• Engine & transmission oil coolers
• Roller bearing version of the twin scroll turbo
• Rear strut brace
• Lightweight front subframe
• Performance revolving chamber fuel pump (anti surge)
• Black seats, door panels and carpet
• Stiffer chassis with revised welding
• Larger intake pipe
• Roof vent
• Smaller 50 litre fuel tank
• Smaller lightweight battery

At least I only have to do a quick cut n paste. Poor old Tony must like hitting his head against a wall answering one of the most common questions.

Still it's better than the "How fast does yours go?" type questions. lol

B or W. You're both drawn to anything with JDM or Spec C in the title, like moths to a flame lol.

Just to be a pedant, nitriding isn't a coating:

Well actually in a way it is, it only hardens the outer surface, not the inner metal, normally done in gasious form and causes a coating similar to oxidisation, its not very deep but it does actually strenghten the part a little.

But a coating would surely cover the outer surface rather than be taken in as part of the composition of the base material, albeit only in a thin layer. So paint is a coating for example, but nitriding is a process designed to alter the mechanical properties of the component.

So you have a 'nitrided crankshaft' rather than a 'nitride coated crankshaft' (which would imply that nitride is a product rather than a process).

If nitriding increases the dimensions of the item, I'll accept it's a coating (of sorts), but if not, I'd argue it's a process.

I hope this is taken in the spirit of friendly banter in which it is intended incidentally. I'm not trying to be argumentative (just pedantic!) I'll also happily wear sackcloth and ashes if I'm wrong.

Should we just go for "its a hardening process of the outer layers of metal"?

I like that.

But hang on, is it hardening or toughening...?

I'll get me coat(ing)!
