Thanks everyone
Yes there are lights down there otherwise you wouldn't be able to see anything! There are 3 marine waterproof lights (due to vapor etc), 1 at the top, 1 halfway down, and 1 near the bottom. Each light has 3 LED's in and they were stupidly expensive (£450 for the 3 lights)

They say that they will last for 50,000 hours of use, so we are hoping they will last for atleast 2 generations! (we won't leave them on 24/7 or anything like that).
However if one does stop working, it's a big job to get down there and fix it! Knowing the luck we've had, it'll be the one at the very bottom!

Great kithchen, Mr. LSherratt. Daddy Sheratt and Mummy Sherratt must be well minted!
I don't think I can cope with the well in my kitchen, though. Every time I go to make a cup of tea or to raid the fridge past midnight, I will worry about falling into it, and seeing zombies sticking their faces through the thick glass. If it were my kitchen, I'd change the whole plan and have the well in between the plasma and the leather chairs. I will also have the chairs in black. Not keen on orange colour for the chairs.
And, where the hell is the mess??? I see no mess at all but a kitchen towel on the kitchen work top, and a lonely toaster without a breadbin. IMO kitchen should look like a kitchen with useful things all over it. Bare kitchen looks like it has been burgled, man.
Jokes apart, your kitchen looks ACE.

Nice. You have taste too (we have the same colour combination for our kitchen units/worktops/handles etc.
)
I hope those are LED bulbs in those lights.
Wouldn't want to be climbing down there every few months to change a GU10 halogen.

Apologies to bump an old thread but all the rain we've had over the last 2 months caused the water level to rise above the bottom light! We disconnected the light switch before Christmas incase someone accidentally turned the lights on and blew the circuit in the lights. It's a shame because last year the water was very close to rising above the bottom light and we've decided to take the glass lid off and send someone down there on a winch (that person being me!)
to disconnect the bottom light so that we can still have the top and middle light turned on without risking the whole circuit. They are 'marine' LED lights but I doubt they are designed to be submerged under water for long periods of time so it's just not worth the risk.
The water is crystal clear so it's very difficult to tell from the picture where the water line is and you can't really appreciate how high it has risen unless you see it in person.
Here's a picture of the water level currently and try to compare it to the first pictures. It looks to have risen about 30 foot?! Also notice the green plant which has grown.

No because the lid is sealed so no easy way of removing the glass lid. We will have to use a grinder to break the seal in order to get down there to take out the bottom light. It could be 3-4 months until it dries up a bit a drops below the bottom light, but when I eventually go down there I'll take an empty bottle down with me.
Having been reading Stephen King recently, I have one question.
What are you going to do when something comes up out of the water, and climbs up the well side?
I further refer you to HP Lovecraft.....Dead Cthulhu might JUST be down there.......

Not sure if theirs are good enough either for your well, but worth a peep for the deep.
by the way, your parents' well is still looking very well. Worth resurrecting this thread, believe me. What a great feature.
