Tim's round this weekend to start on the exhaust. Loads of stainless bends and pipe have arrived, I've gone for a magnaflow box.




If it's good enough for chip it's good enough for me we've also gone for this groovy quick release clamp.




Originally I was gonna just have a straight pipe coming out in the centre but after looking around and being heavily influenced by Porsches I've gone full on tart mode.



I had some maguires metal polish lying around the garage, before and after





Never know might even go gold




A few other small jobs done. Battery relocated, due to fuel tank going in the boot it's gone on the back seat. Originally I wanted it on the floor but after cutting the carpet I realised the floor isn't flat and not the best place to mount




Good job all the carpet is coming out anyway

New pipe for the swirl pot with a softer bend/angle.



Pipe sorted for the return to sump on the catch can.



Needed to sort out the rear tow hook. All the oem fixings have gone so had to sort out a new bar to attach the hook to.




Must admit didn't enjoy cutting the bumper. Measured about 10 times before cutting. Looks pretty sweet now




While I was hacking the bumper apart seemed sensible to sort out the exhaust opening.




Gives a rough idea, I'll make a surrounding plate to tidy it all up.

Lastly a few other parts arrived. Never thought I'd go back to a dump valve but pretty sure the oem valve won't handle the sort of power I want to achieve.

Hello mate

The new inlet pipe to the turbo is a straight through pipe with no outlets to connect the oem recirculating valve. Plus I think the standard valve causes issues above 450bhp.

I used to have a turbosmart bov but I ended up going back to the oem as it's a lot smoother. This time I haven't got much of a choice.

Now you'll be able to hear me from the other side of the track

Read the whole thread from start to finish in a few stints today. Have to say you're doing a cracking job of it. Normally I'm not a fan of gold at all but think it looks perfect here, it just looks right!

Look forward to seeing more updates.

Update time, had an awesome day on saturday. Tim came over and we got the exhaust finished

After a lot of experimenting we pretty much changed our original plan and went something even better. Its always been important to keep the bends in the system as soft as possible, absolutely no point making all of this and it ends up causing performance issues later.

We ended up creating a side exit exhaust and the back box sits where the old spare wheel well was and the pipe work was a lot neater and closer to the car due to removing the fuel tank.

We had to cut a section off the rear panel to allow room for the tail pipe. TBH I hardly took any pics during the day and it was pretty hard to get everything in the pic. Here's a few for now and I'm gonna take a more during the week. Theres a lot of bare metal to get painted asap

















Hopefully more to follow this week

Yes mate, couple of weeks tying loose ends including finishing connecting the engine back in and new turbo. Then its time to rock 'n' roll

I'm hoping to get the car back up and running in the next two weeks so we can then get the alignment done and over to Duncan for the new map.

I've got a list as long as my arm of small jobs need doing before we start it up. Here's what's been going on over the last few days:

We did a little fabrication/body work when making the new exhaust system. A few coats of undercoat, seam seal and top coat made it all pretty again










As the exhaust is now pretty close to the new boot floor and fuel tank I've been using some DEI heat shield. Probably over kill but might as well.




New hangers and exhaust are on





Bumpers got all new fixings




I've done a bit of a u turn on the headlights. I wasn't quite happy with the headlight shells. Nothing wrong with them I just wasn't 100% happy with the fit. Just me being a complete tart.

Totally kicking myself as I've sold the original headlights, so I bit the bullet and got another set. Not genuine subaru but still couple of hundred quid gone. But I still wanted just the shell, I don't need them working and I'm also trying to save as much weight as possible.



You'd be surprised how much these badboys weigh. 2.2kg



After a lot of hacking and chopping they're now only 850g and there's still a bit more I can chop.



Obviously couldn't just leave them like this so I tried my hand at vinyl wrapping, I was thinking it would be more robust compared to painting them.

Tbh it's a lot harder than it looks. Had a nightmare making sure no dust gets underneath. First headlight looked ok but not perfect.



The second headlight was a lot easier and quicker but I over heated the wrap and it ended up ripping I've ordered some more wrap and I'll give it another go and if it's still crap I'll call a pro

As mentioned the headlight wrapping didn't exactly go to plan. So I tried it again with what I learnt and also got the wife to give a hand. They came out much better, not a 100% perfect but pretty much there.







Hopefully over the holiday break we should have all the loose ends tied up and the engine running couldn't help myself the other night, had to get the arches back on and see what the wheels are gonna look like











Fingers crossed we should be hearing it's sweet sound very soon

Not sure yet Andy, they're kinda flush with the new arch extensions. When we get it out of the garage we'll see what it looks like. Simple job cutting them down, just wanna be double sure before cutting

Unfortunately we weren't able to get the car started yesterday but all in we had a good push and got pretty much 99% there. Hats off to Tim, he worked almost 10hours straight and tbh without him I'd of been screwed

Stupidly I'd modified a dash fitting for the rear pump and luckily tim noticed what I'd done as it would of pissed fuel everywhere. So that stopped us fuelling up and starting it up. But on the plus side we got everything ready for when the new part arrives.

Couple of snaps of the day:

New turbo on


Unless you've got a spec c inlet I can't see how it's a straight bolt on fit but with a little chopping and on the spot painting we got there





New inlet on, seemed years ago I finished this.



One of my favourite parts goes back on and the new powdercoted brackets





I then pretty much forgot to take pics as we finished the engine



The final wiring for the new battery was also finished.


Then the last job of the day was to fit the new rear diff brace. I think it was because of the rock solid bushes that we've already installed it was a bit of bitch to fit but we got there in the end



So hopefully in the next few days we'll get it started

Another weekend of good news and bad news but overall very happy

We got the new fuel fitting and tied up all the loose ends. When we tested all the fuel system we found one or two 90 swivel unions were failing. When I originally brought all the fitting when we installed the swirl pot system I used two different companies, basically in short: I will only buy fittings from Torques from now on. They've been brilliant, great services and quality products.

Finally got the car out of the garage it maybe dirty but it was great to see it in the daylight.
