I'm really worried now.

The decat thing is a pain, but always been there - so no biggy.

However, i've taken all the airbags out of my car (sparco steering wheel, and the other for weight saving / no need), have bucket seats and 6 point harnesses.

These:

The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective.

A seatbelt pre-tensioner fitted as original equipment but missing or that has obviously deployed will be a reason for failure.

Say that i'm going to fail? I have no pre tensioners, because I have harnesess, which in my opinion are safer than a three point restraint.

Urgh, bloody government.

I personally think it's a very good idea that all cars must have a warning light in the dash to tell the driver he's blinding the ***k out of oncoming road-users.

My tester is of the opinion that if it's not fitted he can't test it!

My view and hopefully one shared by my tester is that he doesn't know what is OE on every car that has ever been sold, so if it looks like it's a proper job, ie no gaping hole in the middle of the steering wheel were the airbag used to be, it will pass. The discussions I had this week, he's happy as long as the car is safe and in his 'best judgement' in compliance with the MOT regs. What he won't pass is bodged mods and obviously unsafe cars due to poor maintenance.

I can understand that, but I think to any plod looking at a car, he'll know that the car wasn't fitted with all these things as standard - as really the tester would know.

I have a good tester, so hopefully will be able to get a few through. May take the car down to him in a couple of weeks and see what he says.

While I agree with some of the new regs, the others seems fairly pointless.

Can you imagine the grief it's going to be with Evo rs and Impreza ra models. No airbags as std but then rs or ra isn't going to be on the mot list. Then it'll be down to the log book which will say 'GL' or some other DVLA **** up. Then you'll be trying to explain to an mot tester it is an RA or RS because it's got black mirrors and keep fit windows.

Nightmare coming up for a lot of people.

If the ra or rs thing is easily proven then their prices will rocket.

Is that the 13 pin one?

Because afaik, the 7-pin ones only need their integrity checked, not function.

Advisory maybe, to fail on it is stupid.

All these changes mean more cars failing and more people unable to afford the repairs etc so more drivers on the road without MOT and therefore invalid insurance.

Nah, that's the REALITY.

What HMG HOPES will happen is that people will scrap their doggers and buy a newer one.

As I said elsewhere, amazaing they have once again pushed through the bits that will make people money, and conveniently forgotten that in Europe it's every TWO years
