I work on the theory that even a spec c with some safety items removed to save weight would still be a lot safer than most cars from a few years ago, my cossie is 1200kg approx but has no safety gear at all, but am I worried, not really. In a big off you need more than door bars and a front subframe to save you from injury.
Cant remember the year or model but i saw a youtube of a scoob flipping and rolling more time's than i could count. I think the car was over 150mph when it flipped, bit's of the car flew off in all directions, it was sickening to watch. You sat there thinking you had just watch someone lose their life. Man walked out un-injured. Ive no doubt that a spec c with less safety features is still a better car to be in a crash than most vehicles out there today. Saying that though, i would still rather carry a few extra KG and have extra safety features.
Mainly the glass, less paint, roof skin, light weight carpet, smaller a/c pump, redesigned front subframe, no side impact bars, no deadlocks, less switches, less electrics, smaller battery, smaller fuel tank etc.
All those small things add up
what do you mean by less switches and electrics??
i had a quick look inside turbo andys blob spec c and the inside was identical to my blob sti.

No boot light, no door switches (they are all blanked off except the drivers door), you also miss out on other mechanical devices like a remote boot release, some dont even have solenoids fitted to the doors! Some have no electric windows, there are no electric mirrors etc (though mine does, my first one didnt).

inside was identical although his is a wr limited whatever that means, love the spec c anyway but personally like the front wing spats, skirts and big spoilers on the sti and i would fit these if i had a spec c and having taken these items off my car at various points the weigh next to nothing really, even the spoiler isnt overly heavy.
i would think these three items would weigh less than half the weight of a passenger.
white spec c has got to be my ultimate impreza though (22b apart)

The body is strengthended, its the only new age to be properly seam welded, and I doubt you would notice much in crash tests, all the classics had neither the front crash protection or side impact bars, and their shells were not as stiff as a new age.
Tony
By front crash protection is it just the bolted on u frame? would it be ok to remove this on a normal sti?
what side impact bars are you referring to and can they be removed also?
no sorry white, red just doesn't do it for me on an impreza, very rare though.
I had no intentions of getting a red one either, I wanted a White JDM blob onwards but could i find one, NO!! Even thought about getting a blue JDM and getting it wrapped, Then all of a sudden, right place and right time i got me a bargain Spec-c, Never even thought about getting one or even looking for one, Just couldn`t let it go
But funnly enough i have never even thought about wrapping this white theres just something about it
I put my 2003 Spec C LTD on a weigh bridge and it came in at 1340kg. Standrad it's meant to be 1370kg - due to having a small A/C unit. though it has a miltek exhaust system which takes away 20kg and i removed the spare wheel and emptied the I/C tank
I believe the boot lid was only made lighter on the 2005 model but not before.
As for no sound deadening, i firmly believe it is bonus to be able to hear every corner of the car and every sound from the engine.
I have always liked red newage imprezas but couldn't find a wide track Spec C. There is just something about a white newage impreza that makes them look so sexy. Love my Spec C to bits.

+1, It looks great
I think they only did the red on the `Ltd` version 03/04, pre widetrack
