Does everyone still prefer the old shape?

Got a new shape sitting on the drive I've had for 4 weeks now. Have to say it looks gorgeous. This wasn't my first impression.
Looks great when it drives up behind you. My wife was following me in it the other day. It just looks less fussy.... no blanked off vents serving no purpose.

This really is the type of thread to enjoy at the end of a busy week.. (have five days off now!!)
Stereotyping is dangerous.
I have a "well old scoob"
It's an ancient 1996 sti2 type RA vltd. Immaculate inside and out, 40,000 km on the clock, a nice set of 17" Oz's, still as tight as a duck's a$$,still speed restricted(!), gearshift still squeaks nicely when you change up, perfect colour for me; all the cachet of the connection with the first WRC win for Subaru.. In other words I would NOT swop it for a new shape NO WAY!!!!!
But one man's meat is another's poisen I suppose..

We have one of each. RB5 and UK300. I think they're both great in different ways. Neither are pretty but I don't think either are that ugly (especially as I've tidied the 300 up a bit )

Doesnt it stand to reason that most 'classic' owners prefer that shape, and 'bug-eye' owners prefer the new shape?
People need to be able to justify their decision and are generally going to vote for the car they have got.
What if the question was how many bug-eye owners prefer the classic shape and vice versa?
Personally, I like 'em both they are just different. Though I must say that the classic was a better looking car straight out of the box, but a few mods to a new WRX soon sorts that.

I like the older ones better, but the new style WRC car looks great and agree that with a few mods the new style would be up there in the looks department.

I think he best looking scoobs EVER are MY99+ wagons in silver - I think they look absolutely stunning and big up to all those who've got em. I went for a silver 4dr MY02 just cos for not much more money I could get a new car (import) - but the looks have grown on me, and chasing an identical one down the A14 last week I have to say that they do look pretty cool on the road.
So power to all scoobs, be they old or new shape, and let's reserve our disrespect for Vectra drivers who reckon they can get it on with us....

OK OK I've got to vote for the old/classic shape too.
I do hope the new guy recruited from Alfa does his stuff cos I will get a Porsche if he cannot do better than the current bug-eye.

Luckily I can remember my first impressions of the old and new shape.
During Winter 1999 I saw an old shape, DBM with gold wheels, big spoiler and I couldn't help but stare at it - I thought it had so much presence on the road.
Summer 2001 I saw a bug-eye and found it hard to believe it was an impreza - it just didn't have anywhere near the same presence on the road as the old shape. Perhaps this is the motive of the new suble shape. Not a bad thing, but not really my cup of tea.

To clarify - when ppl talk about the old shape are they talking post 98 models - cos let's face it, no-one would say the very earliset 'classic' scoobs looked the slightest bit interesting - whereas the later models look far more aggressive and still have presence.

I got my MY00 right at the end of 2000 to make sure I got the older shape. Personal preference only and I can't be bothered to join in the rattle throwing on previous pages

Jon1T the 22B was an MY98
Some of the imports also had larger spoilers ealier than UK models. The UK 99 spoiler was I think an STi4 spoiler apart from a new bumper and a bit of colour coding there isnt much between a 98 and post 98.

Old shape for me - I've really tried to be open-minded about the new shape cars but even though the front has grown on me (a bit), the back looks terrible, and that spoiler.... ewwww.
