I have no problem with *real* United fans, it is the glory hunter hangers on that I can't stand.

Chelle,

Just out of interest, how do you define a "real" United fan? Or a "real" fan of any team for that metter?

I started "supporting" Man Utd because my friends at (primary) school did. I've supported them ever since. I never got to go to games as a boy, because my dad isn't into football. I've only recently had the means to go myself, and I go whenever I can get tickets.

But the fact that I was born in Manchester is incidental.

There are thousands, millions of people who don't come from Manchester, but have still supported United since they were kids. Are they not "proper" fans?

Or is it that you are only a "proper" fan if you go to live games?

So what about the millions of fans around the world who watch every single United game on TV? Are they not proper fans?

If you got chatting to somebody in Indonesia, and they said they were a Villa fan, would you tell them they weren't a proper fan because they weren't born in Brum? Or would you be really pleased to have found somebody who supports the same team as you, even though they live thousands of miles away?

I'm not denying the fact that there are people who say they are Man Utd fans purely because of their recent success, but they're probably not really that interested in football anyway. But I don't think it's fair to discard the loyalty of fans, just because of their place of birth.

Born in Hope Hospital Salford, grew up in Astley, still live in Astley. Man Utd fan since the day I was born, and I like to go to Old Trafford as often as possible, trying to get a season ticket soon. Am I a proper fan then?

Bravo - why do you think I started the thread in the first place?

Man Utd. - you either love 'em or you hate 'em - there's not much in between.

Interesting thought for the end of the weekend;

four years ago I would have cheered on Utd to Win The Champions League - today I'm not so sure (infact I don't think I would) - What's changed ?

Is it the money ? Is it the TV ? Is the attitude of FANS ?

Dunno. What is the reason?

I know if the situation was reversed, I'd be chearing for Arsenal. Or Liverpool.

I'd have to think about Leeds though...

Morning all - nothing like a bit of footie controversy to set the nation talking!!
Michelle - I guess I'm not a real fan by your standards - not born in Manchester and don't live there now. I guess the 27 years living there (until last year)count for nowt, eh? ST holder, go to about half the away games but obviously not a proper fan . Oh well.
Morning Daz, getting nervous yet?
Kippax - any more major signings/United reserves/has-beens going to be signed this week

Morning Seejay, yep nervous as hell about tonight and tomorrow, the injury list at OT is now massive and probably will cost us the Champions league and if Arsenal do falter tonight they will probably beat us at OT due to the injuries.

The list of injuries are Bartez, Blanc, Beckham, G.Nevel and Veron.

Daz.

I quote "the injury list at OT is now massive and probably will cost us the Champions league and if Arsenal do falter tonight they will probably beat us at OT due to the injuries"

this should have read:

"all clubs suffer injuries over the season so that's no excuse. It's just that we ain't good enough in Europe, or domestically for that matter and Arsenal will win the premier Division because they are the better team"

Kippax, you have got to be in it to win it mate.

Also you are right with some of your statement mate, we were very poor at the start of the season getting beat off teams we should of beat.

The injuries could not of come at a worst time for us though weather you love or hate Man U, you have to admit any team in our position at this point of the season can not afford to have so many of the first team out. I accept it's the same for all teams over a season.
