Tesco's for me. Staff are dead on, price is ok and their selection is good.

An Asda opened up close to me recently and its ****e, prices aren't great, the staff are morons and I found numerous out of date food on the shelves.

There is also a Sainbury's near me but its the depressing and the staff seemed to be trained to flirt with you rather than just be friendly.....it wouldn't be such a complaint but the vast majority are obese growlers.

Personally I detest doing the weekly shop, there are 3 Asda stores (including one Hyper) within 15 miles of where I live and I wouldn't shop in any of them.

It's the experience of shopping in any of them that I've found bad almost depressing; the staff are no better than neanderthals and have little or no interest and 80% of the customers are chavs or some form of psychiatric day release patient.

The stores on the whole are badly set out, the shelves are crammed with irrelevant cr@p which is hung off the centre supports; if I'm picking baked beans off the shelf then why would I impulse buy something not even related to the goods on the shelf? Plus the aisles are too narrow and this may seem strange to notice but the false ceilings are too low making it feel clostrophobic.

I actually do my shopping at my local Tesco Extra it's nicely laid out, plenty of aisle space, the staff are helpful, the customers are on the whole bearable and it's just a more pleasant experience all round. I also do some local shopping as well from a corner shop and it's no more expensive than either Asda or Tesco.

So I think it's fair to say that I'm not an Asda fan and the fact that I could save a couple of £'s wouldn't tempt me to change from Tesco either, shopping is a monotonous, tedious and thankless task if I have to do it then better somewhere I don't mind going to.

ps If Asda reckon they are the cheapest supermarket and monitor their competitions prices then why the need for them to give retrospective refunds? If they know if Tesco etc are selling the same or own brand goods cheaper then why not beat or match the price; it's because they rely on the fact that more people than not don't bother to compare as they already believe that Asda's prices are already the lowest.

Why don't more of you do your shopping online?
The first shop may take the same time to setup and process as actually going into the store, but from then on, you're laughing. It takes my wife 10 minutes to order a fortnightly shop and £3 to deliver. We would spend that on petrol travelling to store anyway.

Actually going to a supermarket these days is a mugs game.

Agree with Gear Head - I book our slot on a Monday for Friday delivery, just add to it through the week.

Nice man delivers it between 6-7pm, et voila - no rubbing shoulders with the hoi poloi in sainsburys.

I prefer to go into Asda after trying and just not getting along with online shopping. Fill me up as I'm a mug

Just prefer to go and source the bargains myself. Whoopsies or other reduced stuff, bits and bobs for Isaac or picking my own fresh stuff up. I've seen what crap the online shoppers pick up in store and would rather rummage for the better stuff. Not that I have to justify myself ofcourse

I prefer to shop instore for food too. As I've said, I don't enjoy shopping, but it is a necessity and I would rather pick stuff I am happy with, particularly meat, fruit, veg, breads etc. Plus, if something wasn't available, I would prefer to make my own choice as to what I replaced it with, if anything at all.

It's funny, but I find the stuff that gets delivered has a longer shelf date /BB on them than stuff in the actual store.

I don't buy meat and veg from a supermarket either - use my local butcher for both.
As for replacements, you don't have to accept them.

Point 1, you may well be right. I can't comment in fairness as I haven't actually done my shopping online before.

Point 2, that is quite difficult for me as local shops aren't open before or after I finish work, and as I work Saturdays, I can't go then and they don't open on a Sunday. It is easier just to get the likes of meat/veg as I might fancy from the supermarket when we shop, but in fairness, I do buy my fruit from the grocers outside my work on a daily basis as I want it. With that lot, I'm probably lining the pockets of people even more dodgy than those who own supermarkets

I will admit (cos I'm tired and in a quick turnaround so care factor of zero currently) that I did swap from supermarket meat to my local butchers. The quality is for mr higher with similar cost. Also when you cook the meat there is more left, ie less lost through water. Got me into cooking a bit more so I can say treat the mrs now and again with chops, steak or even just some belly pork etc. Everything meat wise currently gets a splashing of Steakhouse Pepper, which is Jeff's fault

FWIW according to the PG website this morning my Asda shopping yesterday would have cost me £12 more at Tesco, but only £5 more had I gone to Waitrose (which we don't have locally).
It was only the impression your post gave. I quite agree about shopping where you get the best value. I thought Waitrose was ok when we went to one near my sister's place but we have not got one around here. Got the choice of Sainsbury's, Lidl,Marks or the Co-op and we just shop around for the best deal.

That kind of sums up Waitrose LOL!

I shop at Tesco or Asda, but do it online or go at 11pm as they are 24 hour. Quiet as a library and you can whiz in and out in no time. Job done!

To be frank all supermarkets seem pretty similar to me. Buy all my meat at the local butchers now too as much better quality and value.

Aldi for me - Usually fairly quiet (brand snobbery affects all classes it appears ), so little queues, easy to park, plus its the closest supermarket. And the handy junk in the middle of the stores is always worth rummaging through...I've finally given in and bought a nasal; hair trimmer, for the grand sum of £1.99, I didn't realise how bad things had got up there until I mowed it with this mini-strimmer (well, thats what it sounded like ).

Waitrose is better for milfs though and checkout totty, and M&S for single basket shopping totty. And without the hairy nasals maybe I have more of a chance
