I would agree with the above.

342 bhp and 381ft/lbs of torque

I've been told the main restriction in the OE exhaust is the second cat, which is why I'm taking this out. But granted, with the 2nd cat in place I'd probably struggle to get much more than 300 out of it.

You will easily make 340 bhp -360 torque and you have the confidence running that with a forged engine. As 53wrx says the oe down pipe is very free flowing on the 2006 sti!!

I may still go for a sports cat.

Mike Wood once mentioned that the prodrive sports downpipe used on earlier newage PPP kits was far less restrictive than the standard downpipe used on the hawkeye PPP:

Standard rods are no way good for over 450hp. It is possible, but definatley not safe.

Rods are ok upto around 400 ish after that a no go, pec or wossner are decent enough .I used h section laterall in my build was good for 450-450 with a md321 t on it.

When you had engine work done why was the rods left standard crazy that is.

thanks for the input mate. The build is taking place next week so I still have time to alter the spec.

I've just emailed Keith at Scooby Projects to request a set of Manley H section rods :-)

Now, last question - what sort of power can the standard crank handle???

Haha, I'm actually coming over to the UK to have the engine re-built and get the car mapped.

Bob may have to come out to Switzerland for further upgrades later on though (he doesn't know this yet... ) :-)

A couple of additions to the spec:

2006 Hawkeye STI (euro model, 2.5L), 35,000 miles
Standard VF43 turbo
Standard exhaust (apart from a decat midpipe from a JDM STI)
STI panel filter
Forged pistons, cosworth HG's, ARP 11mm head bolts, race bearings
RCM uprated fuel pump
Manley H section rods
Prodrive sports cat downpipe and middle decat

To be built next week by Scooby Projects and Mapped by Bob Rawle.

Hoping for 360 horses and close to 400 lb.

Bit of an update here: turns out the engine was still fighting fit, no problems with the HG at all, just the oe thermostat causing some overheating problems.

So, kept the standard engine and had the thing mapped by Bob Rawle. Only mods are a middle decat, sti panel filter and RCM fuel pump.

According to Bob's road dyno it made 344bhp and 382lb. Feels utterly awesome on the road -superb spool and lots of torque from low revs.

So I guess BrownPantsRacing was the closest guess - well done sir!
