Thanks to Andrew carr
if i wanted my 2003 sti ppp mapping would i be able to do it on the standard ecu, havent got many mods just centre section plus bb,just got a feeling that the car could be made a better drive with a remap?what sort of cost would i be looking at?thanks.
Best speak directly to Andrew if you want a price but from memory £300ish but this was on my last car about a year ago. For the plugs/fuel pump and panel filter around £150, So budget for £500 for a big difference in the way the car performs.
had my car mapped by andy last wednesday, andy stayed alot of hours there was a judder under load that he couldnt solve tried new plugs spare couple of coil packs that andy fitted for me. tried everything but still couldnt get rid no matter what he did, but advised what it could be.......
week later a conrod has decided it does want to be part of the rest of the engine and has tried escaping through a hole it made in the top of engine..........typical really my luck at christmas.
cant blame andy but will know more once engine has been took apart and looked at.
worse thing about it wasnt even giving it loads when it happened half boost 3rd to 4th then boom tick. got my mechanic to have alook this evening started it back up good pressure idle was fine, very small blip of throttle and boom rod and oil everywhere......

If your car has been running lean then that would be the most likely
cause of the engines demise, it would be "detting" what used to be known
as pinking, this eventually breaks the oil film down on the big end
bearings they fail, usually number 4 is the first to go, once gone the
risk of chucking a rod out of bed is greatly advanced and if continued
to be driven it will eventually seize or break a rod.
this is from a source that i have emailed that is the responce i have got.
I am going to have the engine looked at today and if it shows signs it is andrew carrs fault then there will be hell to pay.
he said he doesnt go on here much and already hasnt responded to 3 of my messages nothing nasty just asking his advice (this is before it went bang)

hi
is this the rick that rung me?
if so i guess the rr session is out of the window now
To be quite honest doubt it will be andys fault .
if the piston is still intact you will be able to pick out any issues with det .

Have you considered he may be away for Xmas hence the reason for being un-contactable. Ive turned my work mobile off until the 28th

Andy did mine afew months back. BRILLIANT Job as ever!! Really is like a different car. Pops and bangs, Launch Control the works. As everybodys said.... Can't Recommend Him Enough! Cheers Andy.
Just to echo the above. Adding a generic map is safe enough, let alone the way andrew does his, fully tailored to the car. I highly doubt it was his fault. What does happen is: when you increase power in any car it will amplify any faults on the car and bring them to the foreground. On golfs it's coil packs. On early scions it would be mafs/coilpacks. To blame a mapper who is well established is plainly wrong!!!
this may be the case, everyone i speak to has pointed to running lean, now maybe it could have been my fuel pressure reg, or my brand new walbro could have even been the injectors i suppose, just glad it didnt drop its guts on the rollers at scooby clinic!!!!!! or at gazzas in rotherham. now that would have been imbarrassing.
what to do now? do i transfer every tuner part over to another wrx or just leave it standard as many say with impreza's they become weak when messed with? or do i risk it again and simtek it?

If it has been running lean I doubt it was doing it at the time as the AFR's would have shown up this issue via his laptop, Having been in a couple of cars whilst he was mapping them you do notice he's quite meticulous with what he does and would never leave a car with dodgy AFR's IMO

i must say after our conversation i did say dont foot it until things where checked over !
Cannot see andrew carr being at fault but any cars that missfire coming out g-r would have a rev limit below the missfire and a map limit also (as u lot never listen ,dont take offence )
as i can be sure andrew also said dont abuse car until its fixed and book it back in with him ?
why dont you come see me with the block ?

andrew carr never said dont foot it just gave me advice what to change as he said was definately ignition based. and as per conversation on phone gaz you assured me it would not be the 3 options that i had been told to change.
not kicking off but i always change way before check engine light came on(gear change indicator) and only gave it full throttle till gear change when doing the mapping runs.
car was fine before and not now.

m8 theres loads of people not happy with alot of big named mappers but i dont think any repatable mapper would leave your engine running lean its easy for them to see if its running lean or rich on laptop straight away
I think folk modding their cars need to go in with their eyes wide open. There is always a chance of things going **** up, it's an occupational hazard that comes with the territory unfortunately. When an engine is taken so far beyond it's original parameters then the chances of something going awry is very possible. If you don't want to take that risk leave the engine standard. I've spent a fairly large sum on the car having various bits and bobs done. However on the day of mapping I was prepared for it all to end in a big mess. Why? Is it because I'm an eternal pessimist? No although they do say 'blessed is he who is without expectation for he shalt never be disappointed'. I had planned for the best but was prepared for the worst as I had altered that much on the car and was pushing it that far, that something could have failed.
Now I'm not saying this is carte blanche for tuners and mappers to shrug their shoulders and say **** happens with all the cars they work on. ANY reputable outfit (and there are many) will work with you on any aspect of car upgrading and if the worst happens offer some redress. However individuals should be aware that they may not quite get the results they expect and in some cases it does end in tears. In short if you can't afford to do something twice don't do it once.

But Andrew Did, it was spotted on a rolling road and when he was told he promised to sort it asap, he still hasnt been near after being chased.
i was booked in with gazza in the new year to check my car out, i was also booked in christmas eve at scooby clinic, now if my car had got to saturday i would have know excatly what was wrong with it, I was advised by gazza not to leather it, and tbh i havent truely. i did the mapping with andy at full throttle. after that never really showerd it, its **** again. i love wasting money that took me a long time to save and what i asked of andrew carr was to map it safe, i said it alot and also said i wasnt a number chaser and just wanted the parts that were on to be working with the rest of the car. the car was running 1.28 bar that is far from risky.
the enigne is getting checked over but by the sounds of it even if it is the mappers fault ill not get any help next time around from him regards payment towards new engine or new map. (not from him though)

Regarding it being a low milage car, unless the car has been owned from new, you have no idea how it's been driven. It could of been ragged from cold every day of it's 40k life, or it could of been warmed up and cooled propperly. Not giving it much to me means staying off boost completely. Did this happen?
This thread is getting out of hand.
Andrew supplies a service, he does what he suppose to do, the fact that folk are maybe pushing weak components to stress point are nothing to do with Andrew service.
Take a newage STI lump for example. Some say they can take 500bhp, some say 450bhp, some say 400bhp is a good threshold and yet others claim anything beyond 380bhp is dangerous.
I know that 400+ is safe in the cars I have had, if I take it further then I may be on borrowed time?!?!? who knows, but the point is, if I ask andrew to safe map me to 450bhp with supporting mods on a standard block, then there is risk the bottom end will let go in the near future, thus this is not Andrews fault!
Its all about how you drive too, if you like bouncing off the limiter then you run high risk of engine damage period!
Get the car checked out, and stop pointing fingers and creating a **** storm unnecessary!
As for noturbo, I would simply ask Andrew to check the map for you. RR's are great to a degree, but there is nothing better than looking at how the car behalves live with det cams etc.
