So i have to get Touchpad for a start, but XBMC....do i require an XBOX to make full use of that, as i only have a PS3? Any other app's i should consider?
No you do not need an xbox to make full use of XBMC. It was originally designed for the xbox, but it will run on OS X (as well as ATV, linux, Windows, and there is a Live CD of it as well)
It's just an app on OS X, so you can launch it whenever you want to use it.
